Band 6 Charge Nurse - Callington Road Hospital
The team at Elizabeth Casson House, an 8-bed female Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), is looking for a compassionate and skilled nurse to join our team of enthusiastic individuals dedicated to making a real difference in the lives of our patients.
Working on a Female PICU offers constant learning opportunities. You'll stay up-to-date with the latest psychiatric nursing practices and expand your skills in crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, and cultural competence. ECHO operates as a close-knit, multidisciplinary team, fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals. This teamwork enhances your skills, allows for shared insights, improves patient outcomes, and provides a supportive work environment.
Our ward has recently undergone a comprehensive refurbishment to provide an updated and modernised space for our patients. The renovation includes fresh, calming aesthetics and improved functionality, creating a more welcoming and therapeutic atmosphere. Within the newly refurbished unit, we have a dedicated sensory room. This tranquil space offers a range of sensory experiences such as lighting, sounds, textures, and colours. It's a vital resource for promoting relaxation, self-regulation, and emotional well-being among our patients.
Main duties of the job
The role will involve clinically leading and managing a team of staff nurses and healthcare assistants, supporting the Ward Manager with some operational duties, and helping develop and maintain clinical standards.
The successful candidate will be a registered Mental Health or Learning Disability nurse, with experience in Psychiatric Intensive Care, Learning Disabilities/challenging behaviour, Acute Inpatient Nursing, Place of Safety, and/or Crisis Home Treatment.
You will be able to demonstrate a capacity for clinical excellence, have a high level of emotional resilience, and be able to support the ward with developing and enhancing services.
We are keen to develop our nurses, so training opportunities will be available and supported. Rotational posts would also be considered for those wanting to experience working in different settings.
Callington Road Hospital consists of different units supporting a wide variety of mental ill-health, whereby wards are able to support one another in emergency situations. It is easily accessible, and there is also free parking for staff on-site.
