GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Development Operations or designee, the Events Manager is responsible for planning, implementing and overseeing the Walk to Cure Cancer, a signature special event of UMass Medical School.
Position will require a specific focus on sales/marketing, new business cultivation, corporate sponsorship solicitation and/or corporate community relations
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Identify, recruit and steward new corporate prospects as UMass Medicine Cancer Walk fundraising teams
* Manage-to-goal the fundraising activity of all Walk teams, utilizing “high-touch” cultivation techniques
* Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward high-profile Walk corporate sponsorships, and in-kind sponsors, including food, water and survivor gifts
* Work with Cancer Center of Excellence and communications departments to create sponsorship opportunities that inspire organizations to maintain their involvement with the Cancer Center
* Serve as the primary liaison to Massachusetts AFL-CIO and additional participating union organizations.
* Work with UMass Memorial Health Care (UMMHC) and University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) leadership to implement recruitment plan for Walk Team Leaders throughout organization
* Work with UMMS and UMMHC communications departments to manage media sponsorships and public relations campaign for the Walk
* Oversee the design and timely publication of all Walk collateral
* Manage Walk online giving service, including email campaign and web content updates
* Plan and implement cultivation events such as prospecting, kick-off, thank you, educational events, etc.
* Coordinate the speaking programs for the Walk breakfast, event day, and related events
* Manage overall Walk timeline, including recruitment, fundraising and event logistics
* Develop, implement, and monitor fundraising goals, event budget and project timelines
* Oversee hiring, training, and supervision of Walk staff and determine need for seasonal staff
* Work with Development Gift Processing to ensure accurate and timely Walk gift entry and biographical data entry of team leaders and walkers into Development database. Request, review and manage database mailing lists.
* Schedule and conduct the evaluation process for event planning for following fiscal year
* Perform other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
* 5 years of successful sales/marketing, new business cultivation or development and fundraising experience
* Corporate sponsorship solicitation skills and/or corporate community relations experience
* Extensive experience in cold-call telephone prospecting
* Measurable success in managing large projects to successful completion
* Experience in recruiting, motivating and staffing volunteers
* Excellent communication and public speaking skills
* Ability to work independently and be a self-starter
* Ability to determine priorities and meet short-term and long-term goals
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team
* Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment
* Ability to use data to set goals, budgets and projections
