Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for a Laboratory Automation Senior Scientist to implement fully automated analytics for product development and QC testing. This position will be located in Malvern, PA.
Key Responsibilities:
* Collaborate within a cross-functional team to design, develop, and deploy end-to-end laboratory automation
* Create, optimize, maintain, and continuously improve high-throughput workflows using liquid-handling robots and integrated automation workcells
* Expand the scope of existing automation by introducing new functionalities
* Evaluate novel devices/instruments/technologies for the enhancement of laboratory processes
* Troubleshoot laboratory automation, liaising with internal subject matter experts and external vendors to perform root cause analysis based on thorough scientific and technical investigations
* Share knowledge and document best practices within the automation team, and support and train end users to independently execute automated workflows
* Partner with Information Technology and Data Science teams to automate data flows, ensuring data integrity through capture in appropriate electronic systems and high-through processing via review by exception
Qualifications
Education:
* Ph.D., M.S., or B.S. in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or equivalent is required
Experience and Skills:
Required:
* Ph.D. with 2 or more years of laboratory automation experience, M.S. with 6 or more years, or B.S. with 8 or more years is required
* Experience operating, maintaining, developing, and optimizing in one or both of the following domains is required:
* 1.) Integrated automation workcells using scheduling software such as Biosero Green Button Go, HighRes Biosolutions Cellario, or Thermo Scientific Momentum
* 2.) Liquid-handling robots from Hamilton, Tecan, Beckman Coulter, Dynamic Devices, Agilent, PerkinElmer, etc.
* Experience implementing automated laboratory workflows within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries is required
* Experience migrating biological or biochemical assays/methods onto automated systems is required
* Ability to gather, understand, and assign priorities to user requirements for complicated laboratory workflows, and to translate them into robust automated solutions is required
* Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills (both written and oral), and a commitment in close collaboration with scientists, vendors, and end users across seniority levels is required
Preferred:
* Experience with programming languages such as C#, Python, and Visual Basic is preferred
* Experience with analytical assay/method development is preferred
* Experience with automated sample management systems from Azenta, Askion, and/or Hamilton is preferred
* Experience with instrument API calls is preferred
* Experience working with hybrid/remote teams is preferred
