Job Overview
The assistant will bring a psychologically informed perspective to the ward and generic work and will liaise closely with the other team members.
To meet with service users and under the supervision and in conjunction with colleagues, devise and implement effective individualised programmes of support on the ward.
Formulate, implement, and review person-centred care plans including the psychological treatment and management of the service user's problems working closely with the service users and senior staff.
To be responsible for supporting and enhancing the provision of Specialist Psychological Services to clients with complex, severe, and enduring mental health difficulties entering the Acute Psychiatric Services in the area under the professional guidance of a qualified psychologist.
To reflect on oneself and one's practice and clinical cases in the context of the clinical work.
To actively engage with supervision, preparing cases and questions for discussion as well as taking on feedback and implementing learning that is required.
To undertake structured assessment and therapeutic psychological interventions in these services to a level appropriate to the post holder's skill using own independent initiative within guidelines provided by a qualified psychologist.
To undertake clinically related administration, audit, and research projects, teaching, and service improvement project work under the professional guidance of a qualified psychologist.
Main Duties of the Job
To work closely as part of the MDT, part of ward rounds, safety huddles, ward routines, based predominantly on the wards to be able to actively support and work with patients both through structural engagements such as psychology groups, initial interventions, and short-term, brief 1:1 therapy sessions to aid discharge and to link patients into resources in the community. To also support with the ward environment and help to develop a therapeutic environment and trauma-informed practices.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
* Psychology degree - upper second
* Experience of working clinically with patients
* Knowledge of research & audits
Desirable Criteria
* Has worked in an acute setting before
* Experience of running groups
* Experience of research and audits
