The Division of Theatres and Critical Care is seeking an exceptional individual to lead our dedicated Theatre teams. We are committed to providing outstanding patient care and are looking for a Team Leader to join our team at STSFT.
As a Theatre Team Leader, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Operating Theatre team, ensuring smooth and efficient running of surgical lists within general and vascular specialities. You will provide clinical leadership, support and mentorship to junior staff, promoting a positive and collaborative working environment.
We are a busy Operating department and provide care for patients undergoing a range of surgical specialties including Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Urology, ENT, Vascular and Paediatric, including Emergency and Robotic theatres.
This position will involve out-of-hours working and an on-call commitment (respectively) in accordance with the Departmental roster.
Main duties of the job
1. Leading and coordinating the Theatre team, ensuring optimal utilisation of resources and skill mix.
2. Providing expert clinical knowledge and skills in scrub and circulating for a wide range of general and vascular surgical procedures.
3. Ensuring adherence to all relevant policies, procedures, and safety standards within the Operating theatre.
4. Acting as a role model and mentor for junior staff, supporting their development and providing constructive feedback.
5. Participating in the planning and implementation of services improvements and quality initiatives.
6. Maintaining accurate patient records and documentation.
7. Liaising effectively with surgeons, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal health care.

4. Support ward/department manager to ensure organisational goals/objectives are met within ward/department.
5. When taking charge of the ward/department or in the absence of the ward/department manager, is directly responsible for ensuring that clinical, professional and cleanliness standards are maintained in the entire ward/department.
6. To ensure effective communication internally and externally, regarding patient care and resources.
7. To comply with the Trust's vision, values and behavioural compact.
Person Specification
Physical Skills
* Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy.
Experience
* Experience as a Band 5.
* Experience of leading a team.
* Evidence of innovation in practice.
* Experience of co-ordinating a team in caring for patients from admission to discharge.
* Expertise within the speciality.
* Experience of line-management of staff.
Skills and Knowledge
* Awareness of national Health and Social Care Policy.
* Knowledge of best practice in area of specialism.
* Thorough understanding of expanded roles/professional practice issues.
* Clinical teaching experience.
* Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information, where persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathic or reassurance skills are required.
* Able to work without supervision.
* Competent in the use of IT packages.
* Evidence of competency in relation to nursing practices appropriate to the Post.
* Understanding of budget and financial control systems.
Qualifications
* Current NMC or HCPC Registration (Level 1 Adult Nurse).
* Degree in Nursing studies or healthcare-related subject, or evidence of currently working towards this (UK equivalent).
* Mentorship certificate/ Practice Assessor training or demonstrable equivalent experience.
* Management and leadership training.
