Main duties of the job
Leadership & Clinical Responsibilities
We are seeking a GP Lead to contribute 15.5 hours per week in a leadership role, alongside a minimum of 4+ hours per week of clinical work within SevernSide IUC. The post holder will play a crucial role in our multi-disciplinary leadership team, working closely with medical, nursing, AHP, and operational colleagues.
The role will have a particular focus on System CAS and Frailty-ACE within Integrated Urgent Care (IUC), while also supporting broader IUC responsibilities. The GP Lead will be pivotal in driving innovation, quality improvement, and service development, fostering relationships within BrisDoc and with external partners.

Job Responsibilities
Patient Care & Quality
The GP Lead will actively contribute to patient care and service quality by:
* Establishing proactive working relationships with governance, operational, and clinical leadership teams.
* Driving a culture of openness, learning, and patient safety.
* Supporting Clinical Governance.
Clinical Work In SevernSide IUC
* A preference for working across at least two elements of SevernSide (e.g., Out of Hours, WDPL, System CAS, Frailty-ACE), including Out of Hours shifts.
* A commitment to Clinical Coordinator (CC) shifts as part of clinical duties (training and support provided).
* A fair share of clinical work across Bank Holidays and holiday periods, ensuring senior medical cover.
Leadership, Service Development & Stakeholder Engagement
* Identify service gaps and support or lead improvements.
* Drive urgent care pathway development and optimise clinical time on shift.
Workforce Care, Training & Development
* Driving GP recruitment and retention within SevernSide.
* Supporting GP trainees, enhancing their experience, and promoting long-term retention.
* Leading and delivering clinical inductions for new GPs and trainees.
Line Management Responsibilities
The GP Lead team provides line management for employed SevernSide GPs and Clinical Guardian GPs, including:
* Conducting Performance & Development Reviews (PDRs) annually.
* Ensuring direct reports complete mandatory training and receive ongoing support.
Communication & Engagement
* Contribute to and lead on clinical updates via electronic newsletters for IUC clinicians.
* Ensure effective staff communications, helping clinicians access key guidance and resources.
Person Specification
Qualification & Training
Essential:
* Full GMC registration as a GP
* Inclusion on NHS England's Performer's List
Desirable:
* Leadership or management qualification
Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
* Experience working in urgent primary care settings
* Experience in service development & quality improvement
* Currently working in General Practice, Community Medicine, or IUC services
* Understanding of national and local healthcare issues
Desirable:
* Two or more years' experience in SevernSide IUC or other IUC/OOH services
* Acute/general medical experience
* Experience with referral management & primary care/hospital interface decisions
* Experience in line management or supervision of medical staff
* Previous GP leadership experience, particularly working with partner organisations
* Experience in teaching & small group facilitation
