Transport and Infrastructure are looking to recruit a Senior Technician to the Network Strategy and Road Safety Team within the Roads Service.
Based at the Council offices at Cargen Tower, Dumfries, you will work within the Network Strategy and Road Safety team, provide support to Senior Officers and assist with the delivery of the Council’s Public Realm Capital Programmes. Working with a Roads Service team of engineers and technicians, this position would suit an enthusiastic and motivated individual who would like to be involved in the project management, design and delivery of road safety and speed limit and traffic calming schemes.
Candidates should have a minimum qualification to HNC level in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and a good working knowledge and experience of health and safety including the CDM Regs 2015.
You should have a proven track record and/or sound knowledge of roads infrastructure, including design and construction and roads related legislation relative to a Roads Authority’s obligations for road safety and the operational management of the road network. Experience in contract preparation, project management and financial/ budgetary control would be desirable.
Experience of working in an office environment is essential and you must be computer literate with a good working knowledge of MS Office applications.

Candidates are expected to have basic knowledge and experience of roads and transport infrastructure. Basic Autocad skills are essential to assist with the preparation of drawings for projects and schemes.
You must be flexible, self motivated, able to work under pressure to deadlines, possess good organisational skills and have the confidence to deal with staff, the public and contractors. You should be a team player with good oral/written communication skills. A current full driving licence is essential.
