An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Health, Safety and Environment department for an experienced Senior Environmental Advisor, to be based out of our operation in the Port of Southampton. Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, our successful candidate will ensure environmental regulatory compliance and lead business practices related to the management, assessment, and enhancement of all related programs. We are looking for an innovative and passionate Environmentalist to champion DP World Group Standards & Governance requirements and to drive the overall DPW Southampton HSE strategy.
Location: Southampton, full time on site
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Mon-Fri)
About the Role
How you will contribute:
1. Manage and lead assigned projects and environmental programs to ensure environmental compliance and best practices related to construction and operations.
2. Work with the DPW Southampton internal teams, contractors, and environmental regulators to obtain the environmental permits, licenses, and consents required for the construction and operation of the port.
3. Manage competitive tender processes.
4. Track expenditure.
5. Ensure appropriate Terms and Conditions for services are in place.
6. Control Procedures and provide training on the procedures to relevant DPW Southampton teams.
7. Provide a point of contact for environmental incidents that may occur on the Port and provide environmental input to DPW Southampton’s Emergency Plans and exercises led by other teams.
8. Present results of environmental projects and programs to the Environmental Advisory Group (regulators) where appropriate.
9. Take a lead role in the development and implementation of DPW Southampton’s environmental monitoring programs and strategies, including developing monitoring scopes, competitively tendering works, and technically reviewing any reports and outputs.
10. Work with internal departments to raise awareness of environmental legal compliance requirements and continual improvement while considering financial and operational impacts.
11. Involvement with external stakeholder communication and representing DPW Southampton on environmental matters with regulators, customers, tenants, trade associations (UKMPG), NGOs, and the public.
What you will bring:
Qualifications
1. Environmental Science or similar subject University degree.
2. Membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.
3. A technical understanding of the following is desirable:
* Renewable energy and latest trends.
* Electrification of machinery.
* Battery technology – charging technology.
* Hydrogen opportunities, potential, challenges.
* ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
* Emergency Response and incident investigation.
* Environmental Permits.
* Environmental Audits and Inspections.
* Air Quality.
* Water Quality.
* Noise Monitoring.
* Waste Management.
Experience
1. Minimum 10 years’ experience with at least 3 years in implementing solutions around renewable energy and decarbonisation strategy.
2. Worked in the Heavy/marine/Ports & Terminals/Logistics industry for a minimum of 5 years – Desirable.
3. Sound working knowledge of ports and the marine industry – Desirable.
