ABOUT THE ROLE – HOUSING SUPPORT WORKER
Many of our tenants have faced significant challenges in securing a positive future – they need support to make progress and achieve their aspirations especially around employability and securing housing. As a Housing Support Worker, you will have a case load of tenants and you will play a pivotal role in their lives, working alongside them to assess risks and needs and to develop person centred support plans which will enable them to make progression towards independence.
At Smartmove, you will be providing floating support for your tenants living in supported accommodation in Birmingham.
We will provide all necessary support, induction and training.

ROLE: HOUSING SUPPORT WORKER
RESPONSIBLE TO: THE TEAM LEADER
SALARY: £12.00 - £13.00 per hour
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Visit properties and provide floating support to tenants living in supported accommodation in Birmingham, to develop their skills, confidence, preventing homelessness and successfully moving them on into independent living.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* To provide support to tenants of the highest standard
* To use own initiative where necessary when working with tenants and colleagues
* To ensure tenants support needs are met
* To assist tenants to have an improved quality of life and empower them to make choices
* To bring to the attention of the Supervisor any concerns relating to tenants and their wellbeing
* To protect tenants from any form of abuse
* To move tenants into their accommodation using own vehicle
* To take tenants to appointments in emergencies (i.e. jobcentre / foodbank)
* To assist tenants to achieve their support plan goals and / or other support needs
* To create support plans in respect of each tenant through careful observation, assessment and writing up of daily reports – with input from other relevant multi-agencies and / or the supervisor accordingly
* To maintain accurate notes / records
* To support tenants to register with local health care services
* To support tenants to access opportunities in education / employment or training
* To assist and enable tenants to gain or maintain their accommodation and to support them towards independent living
* To assist in the preparation of accommodation for new tenants
* To report maintenance and repairs needed to be carried out
* To maintain the standard of properties by carrying out property checks
ESSENTIAL RECORD KEEPING
* To ensure all information relating to tenants are accurate and up to date
* To maintain accurate records of progress towards achievement of agreed goals and targets reflected in support plans
CONFIDENTIALITY
* To ensure confidentiality is of the utmost importance and must be maintained at all times
QUALIFICATIONS
* Maths and English GCSE grade C or above
* NVQ in Care, Advice and Guidance or other relevant subject (desirable)
ROLE / EXPERIENCE
* Experience of working with people in the following settings: youth work, residential or social work, probation / criminal justice, community work, education and training, housing or support work
KNOWLEDGE
* Ability to use own initiative
* Flexible in approach to work
* Basic understanding of welfare rights and state benefits
SKILLS
* Legible handwriting
* Computer literate including MS Office
* Able to plan and organise own work
* Able to make and maintain accurate records
* Able to assist people with basic numerical calculations e.g. rent payments
* Able to create and maintain effective working relationships with external agencies
* Able to act on own initiative
* Able to follow written or spoken instructions, clarifying or challenging when necessary
* Able to relate to people

HOURS OF WORK / LUNCH BREAK / HOLIDAYS
* Mon – Fri 9am til 5pm
* 12.30pm – 1pm Lunch
* 28 days holiday
