About the Role
As a Social Worker / Senior Practitioner, you will provide supervision and support to approved foster carers across Staffordshire and beyond. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the best outcomes for children and families. You will also support social workers in their roles, oversee assessments, and contribute to strategic development within the team.
Note: no cos, UK resident only
Key Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day line management and coordination of Personal Assistants (PAs).
Support social workers with professional advice and guidance.
Promote and facilitate Family Group Conferences and family meetings as part of case planning.
Deliver high-quality assessments and reports for courts, Child Protection Case Conferences, and Statutory Reviews.
Plan and monitor interventions, ensuring positive outcomes for children and families.
Conduct regular case reviews and update plans accordingly in partnership with families and agencies.
Maintain accurate client records within the Integrated Children’s System (ICS).
Build and sustain strong multi-agency partnerships to support children in care, those in need, and those transitioning home.
Contribute to policy development and new initiatives within the Directorate.
Supervise and mentor social work students and non-social work qualified staff.
Deputise for the Team Manager when required.
Be flexible to work in various locations across the district as needed.
About You
Essential Qualifications & Professional Memberships:
Social Work Qualification (DIP SW, CQSW, CSS, or equivalent certified by Social Work England).
Registration with Social Work England.
Knowledge & Experience:
Substantial post-qualifying experience in social work.
Experience managing complex caseloads and working in diverse social work settings.
Strong knowledge of legislation related to children’s welfare, safeguarding, care planning, and fostering.
Understanding of child development, family dynamics, and the impact of vulnerabilities on children and families.
Awareness of how disabilities and chronic illnesses affect children and their families.
Skills & Competencies:
Ability to complete high-quality assessments, planning, monitoring, and review of cases.
Strong ability to build relationships with children, families, and partner agencies.
Effective communication, report writing, and ICT skills.
Capacity to prioritise workloads and manage competing demands.
Commitment to restorative approaches when working with families.
Ability to mentor and support team members, contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Additional Requirements
Car driver (essential car user post, with suitable adjustments under the Equalities Act 2010).
Commitment to continuous professional development in line with Social Work England standards.
A flexible approach to work, including travel within the district.
