Job summary To provide expert care and support to patients diagnosed with breast cancer and their families, delivering holistic support from initial diagnosis through to surgery, oncology treatments, and follow-up/post-treatment care. To offer specialist assessment, information, and advice to patients undergoing breast reconstruction, augmentation, or reduction surgery, utilising advanced clinical knowledge and skills to guide them through their treatment journey. To deliver compassionate and evidence-based care to individuals presenting with both benign and malignant breast conditions, ensuring timely support and appropriate management. Main duties of the job To work in close collaboration with the Lead Breast Care Nurse to ensure the consistent, coordinated delivery of evidence-based, best practice care for patients diagnosed with breast cancer. To contribute to health promotion initiatives and public education, supporting prevention and early detection strategies. To function as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, while also operating as an autonomous specialist nurse, delivering expert care within the breast nursing service. To facilitate clear and effective communication across the specialist team, promoting cohesive and holistic multidisciplinary management of patients. To provide accurate information, clinical guidance, and emotional support to patients throughout their cancer journey. To actively engage in education, training, and research activities relevant to the breast care service, contributing to professional development and service advancement. To support the development and implementation of evidence-based nursing practice, aligned with current research and national guidelines. To assess patient symptoms, provide clinical advice, and implement appropriate interventions to manage complex care needs. To assist the Lead Breast Cancer Nurse and Band 7 colleagues in driving service improvements and contributing to the ongoing development of high-quality care delivery.
