Job Title: Domestic Abuse Support Worker Head Office Location: Brindley Place, Birmingham Job Location: B24 Salary - 12.14ph Contract type - Permanent Working hours - Full Time 35 HOURS Closing Date - 3 rd October 2024 Interview Date - 16th/ 17thOctober 2024 About the Service Our GSA refuge is for women and children who have had to flee their homes because of domestic. We provide support families with housing, welfare benefits, mental health, education, and training opportunities. Staff utilise a Support Plan to prioritise key work tasks and activities on a one-to-one basis and as a group. Staff also offer advice and information to empower and equip the women to live independently, within a safe and stable environment free from violence and abuse. Referrals are mainly sourced through the `Routes-to-Support portal managed by Women`s Aid, but the service also accepts direct referrals in line with its internal criteria. The refuge has 16 self-contained flats with a communal lounge, a communal kitchen, a children`s classroom, as well as a communal garden area. It is funded by Birmingham City Council and the property is owned by Green Square Accord. About the role The role is for those who would like to support victims of domestic abuse and their children. Your role would be to help the women and children to reintegrate back into the community from a refuge setting. Staff will utilise Support Plans and an adopt a Outcome Star approach to prioritise the clients needs and assess their risk factors as part of the service delivery. One-to-One sessions and group sessions are also facilitated by staff. You must be able to: Be able to communicate effectively with victims of abuse over the phone and face to face including supporting their children. To be emphatic, patient and demonstrate listening skills To have knowledge of domestic abuse and how to support victims To work with external agencies, police, social care, schools and the court to support victims. Be able to use IT packages and data bases to report and record Able to lead, chair organise meetings and type minutes to meetings Please note that if you are successful in this role, we will require a DBS check to be completed.
