Job summary We are looking for a candidate who holds a CCT in Paediatric Emergency Medicine to join the paediatric emergency unit which is staffed 24/7 by paediatric trained nurses. The successful candidate will join the existing consultant in paediatric emergency medicine to help support the development of the paediatric emergency department and the training of speciality trainees on their paediatric block. The Paediatric Emergency Department team is responsible for the provision of Emergency Care to children up until their 16th birthday and sees a wide variety of pathology. The unit is supported by seven day band 7 paediatric nurse cover. The general Emergency Department team includes 5 trainee registrars, 3 specialty doctors, a senior clinical fellow and ACPs heading up the senior decision maker tier. Along with Emergency Nurse Practitioners, 10 junior doctors and 4 F1s. The successful postholder will help in supporting the training and education of both the medical and nursing staff as well as undertake quality improvement work in line with The Standards of Care for Young People. The paediatric emergency department has close links with the paediatric unit, neonatal unit, PICU (under WATCH) and safeguarding teams. This post is fixed term for up to 6 months due to departmental changes. English and/or Welsh speakers are both equally welcome to apply. Main duties of the job This post is a consultant post within the Paediatric Emergency Department and if also trained in the general ED, on a 50:50 split with on-calls being for the whole department on a 1:8 basis. We are looking for individuals who hold a CCT in either Paediatric Emergency Medicine from a Paediatric or Emergency Medicine training route. If successful the appointed consultant would join an existing team of 8 Emergency Medicine consultants, one who is also paediatric emergency medicine trained and one SAS doctor. Applicants from a paediatric grid PEM route will also be considered.
