Aurora Meldreth Manor School is an independent Special day school which provides a highly specialist learning environment for students aged 6 to who have a range of MLD and SLD needs including autism spectrum disorders, ADHD and associated difficulties, who require an individualised, specialist approach. Many of our students have complex medical needs and sensory/ physical impairments. Our students are supported to manage sensory overload, anxiety, low self-esteem, low confidence, and difficulty with transitions which is often demonstrative through their behaviours.
We are a well-resourced school with exceptional facilities and therapeutic team.
Due to the continued increase in our student role and expansion of the school provision we are currently looking for a number of Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTA) to join our NAS accredited specialist team to create better outcomes and life chances for our students in their preparation for adult life.
The main purpose of the role:
The purpose of the Higher Level Teaching Assistant is to support the Class Teacher with all elements of the day to day running of the class and to teach whole classes, groups and individual lessons in consultation with the Class Teacher on a regular basis across a range of classes.
Key Duties:
1. To lead in the absence of any Class Teachers across the school.
2. Assist the Class Teacher’s with carrying out the professional duties of a teacher as outline in the Professional Standards for Teachers.
3. Know and understand the Class Teacher’s curriculum planning and to plan, prepare and deliver assigned programmes of teaching and learning activities to individual, small groups and/or classes modifying and adapting activities as necessary within agreed systems of supervision.
4. To provide high quality, challenging and differentiated educational activities and experiences through teaching a broad and balanced curriculum aiming at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.
5. Support the day to day running of classes across the school and take the lead in the absence of a Class teacher.
6. Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils according to the school’s policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT.
7. Monitor pupils conduct and behaviour throughout the learning process and intervene to resolve highly complex, difficult or very challenging issues and keep records of incidents, health and behaviour etc. as necessary.
8. Ensure a high standard of personal care for the pupils, carefully monitoring the health and well-being of the pupils informing the care staff, medical staff and any other relevant professionals of any concerns.

Skills and Qualifications
Successful candidate qualities:
9. The Higher Level Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent Level 4 qualification is required
10. GCSE pass above C (or 4 in the new GCSE system) in English and Maths
11. Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN, SLD/PMLD, ADHD and ASD
12. Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
13. Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge.
14. Able to work within the parameters of the physical demands of the job role.
