The Role:
The Engineering Superintendent will be reporting to the Mobile Plant Manager, the main purpose of the role is to manage the delivery of planned maintenance and reactive repairs through teams of multi-skilled tradespersons. This will involve providing support, guidance, and leadership to the teams in delivering quality repairs and maintenance. The Hartlepool engineering superintendent is responsible for managing Health, Safety and Environment within the department.
You will ensure that the engineering teams respond to asset breakdowns and resolve the cause of faults/defects/Incidents to minimise downtime, and also ensure that planned maintenance is undertaken in line with OEM and relevant legislation. Additionally, you will communicate maintenance progress updates to the relevant stakeholders and ensure accurate records of your department’s tasks are kept.
Position Accountabilities:
* Ensure all duties are completed in line with RAMS, Company Health & Safety policy and engineering process and procedures - Be active in Risk Assessments compiling or reviewing.
* Assist management in direct sight of department’s daily operation.
* To ensure an effective and efficient use of an asset management system.
* Proactively monitor performance within the teams, evaluating training needs, labour levels and qualification opportunities and addressing areas of underperformance, where necessary.
* Participate in assigned long-term preventative maintenance programs and projects
* Ensure that all servicing and repairs are conducted safely and to a high quality.
* Liaise with the Engineering Manager, engineering teams, and as required Operations management team to prioritise both reactive and planned maintenance to ensure that service and repair levels are maintained.
* Participate in cross-departmental meetings/working groups when required to support the delivery of operational/Engineering goals.
* Conduct communication events to the engineering teams frequently, and with individuals when required.
* Ensure that the PM schedule is complete, and any issues are communicated and take ownership in closing out on time and in full.
* Liaising with suppliers to ensure that we are receiving quality equipment/components that are cost effective.
* Manage positive customer and employee relations.
* Motivate and drive the team’s forward with Continuous improvement and engineering excellence.
* Ensure all statutory examinations are in line with current legislation and Company procedure.
* Ensure good housekeeping is maintained at all times.
Physical Demands:
* Office computer user, workshop/Site interaction with engineering teams.
* Role will demand: Climbing, lifting, bending, carrying.
Special Requirements:
* Work on various sites within PD Ports infrastructure to a pre-determined plan as set by the management team.
* Ensure information/records are provided to the company on request for ISO accreditations.
Knowledge, Attitude, Experience & Skills:
* HNC in Mechanical and/or electrical Engineering or technical equivalent.
* Leadership and management certificate
* Supervisory experience in managing multi-skilled teams.
* IOSH – Managing safety
* IT skill set in Microsoft office – reports/analysis.
* Effective communication skills.
* To have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively.
* Strong organisational skills
* Ability to lead, inspire and motivate a team(s) to meet objectives.
* Demonstrate analytical skills to be able to interrogate, analyse and evaluate previous repair information.
