Job overview
PLEASE NOTE; The start date for this post will be no earlier than July 2025.
Patient administration underpins the patient journey and supports clinical teams in delivering high quality patient care. The Medical Secretary is pivotal in achieving effective patient administration.
Main duties of the job
* Deal with urgent and routine correspondence including transcription from digital dictation.
* Maintain accurate 18 week referral to treatment (RTT) pathway for patients.
* Work with Choice & Access to arrange clinic cancellations.
* Open and prioritise correspondence on behalf of Consultant.
* Ensure patient pathways are updated to minimise data quality issues.
* Receive, manage and prioritise telephone and personal enquiries.
* Manage patient investigation results and maintain Consultant’s diary.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Typing and/or Word/Text Processing Skills
* Proficient in English both written and oral
* GCSE or equivalent qualification in at least four subjects including Mathematics and English
* Business Admin NVQ II or equivalent or willing to work towards this
* AMSPAR – Medical Terminology Certificate
Previous Experience
* Experience in an office environment
* Diary Management
* Experience in a large healthcare organisation
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Competent Microsoft Office User

* Ability to work to tight deadlines
* Clear understanding of confidentiality
* Adaptable to change
