History of Service
Barnardo's DSI service has been providing support to children & young people with a disability and their families across East Riding for over 20 years. Barnardo's DSI Service delivers a number of different services to children and young people 0-25 years with SEND, and registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC):
Short Break Service: This is a specialist short breaks service for families with a disabled child/young person between the ages of 0–25 years across the East Riding of Yorkshire. The allocation of hours is on an assessed need from the local authority. The service is domiciliary registered with CQC. Sessions can take place in the young person's home or out in the local community. The service is delivered 52 weeks of the year including weekends, evenings, school holidays and overnights (excluding bank holidays).
Group Work: The service delivers 3 specialist youth groups throughout the East Riding, for young people aged 11-18 who are referred via the local authority. We also deliver 10 weekly Saturday groups for children aged 5-11 and 12-18 which families can self-refer. In addition to this, we are commissioned to run a monthly family sessions, families must have a child aged between 3-12 with SEND, families are able to self-refer into this service.
B-Enabled Outreach Support: Our outreach service aims to bridge the gap between formal education and community engagement by providing tailored programmes and resources to young people with the aim of working towards reintegration into an educational setting.
Upskilling Training: The service upskills parents/carers and professionals increasing their knowledge and expertise in SEND and enabling them to become more understanding and inclusive towards children with SEND.
Initial Specific Responsibilities
The post holder will report into the Children's Services Manager (CSM) and Service Co-Ordinator providing training on an as and when basis across the service.
The post holder will be required to deliver existing prepared training packages to Barnardo's DSI Service staff, parents/carers and professionals in the following subjects:
Autism and sensory awareness training
Behaviour intervention training
Introduction to children and young people's mental health
Best practice when working with children with additional needs including the use of care plans and risk assessments
Child protection level 1
Any other training packages that may be required by the service
Training will predominantly be required to be delivered on evenings and some weekends. Training will be delivered via different methods including face to face and online. Therefore, it is essential that you are a car driver and have use of a car for the purpose of this post.
It is essential criteria that you have a passion for and experience of working with children, young people and their families with SEND.
You will have an understanding of issues facing young people and with SEND and complex health needs.
You will be delivering training to staff and other professionals so having experience and being engaging during delivery of training is essential.
You will have effective knowledge and experience of safeguarding children procedures.
You will promote good practice in equality and diversity and provide advice and guidance that champions inclusive approaches and practices.
Flexibility in working to meet the needs of the service – evening and weekend delivery.
You are able to keep up to date with policies, procedures and guidance in order to ensure the training packages are always updated and relevant.
Gather and collate feedback forms from training sessions completed by participants.
