Brief Description
In this role you will become an integral member of the senior leadership team, supporting the Eastern region Director of Engineering and Asset Management team (DEAM) and regional support functions. You will be a dedicated business partner working closely with teams including Asset Management, Asset Protection and Health, Safety and Environment to positively challenge and influence business activities, budgets and financial forecasts of nearly 200m/annum to improve performance and support the efficient delivery of our CP7 business plan.
Key Accountabilities
1. Consolidate, critically review and provide technical advice and guidance on periodic financial results and forecasts.
2. Provide robust professional recommendations and financial guidance on accounting guidelines and standards.
3. Provide technical and professional oversight of the periodic accounts, relevant analysis and preparation of business plans and budgets.
4. Develop, understand and influence the cost and income drivers relevant to the business area.
5. Influence, coach and challenge senior budget holders in understanding the impact of their period results and forecasts.
6. Proactively challenge budget holders plans and budget submissions.
7. Drive, adapt and deliver key KPIs and deliverables for the function.
8. Lead in budget holder key meetings on financial performance.
9. Develop, drive and implement investment decisions and new business activities.
Essential Requirements
1. Membership (or working towards membership) of a relevant accounting body (CIMA/ACCA/ICAEW) or equivalent experience.
2. Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills at all levels.
3. Successful relevant experience working in a complex financial environment.
4. Demonstrable record of budget management and governance.
5. Significant experience in managing ambiguity in a financial environment.
6. Excellent technical Financial and Accounting knowledge.
7. Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline.
Desirable Requirements
1. Full membership of relevant post graduate professional body (CIMA/ACCA/ICAEW).
2. Experience of Oracle based systems.
3. Substantial experience within multiple finance disciplines.
4. Knowledge and technical expertise of Government accounting.
5. Understanding of project management principles.
