The Role and Department As Asbestos Coordinator, based within the Estates and Facilities Directorate, you will support the University in managing risks arising from Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs), in line with the requirements of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. You will work closely with the Senior Asbestos Manager, contributing to the implementation of the University's Asbestos Management Plan through the delivery of technical support and accurate administrative compliance focused work. This role will involve a high level of stakeholder engagement and, to be successful, you will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills. Compliance reporting will also be an important element of the role, and therefore accuracy and attention to detail will be key. A knowledge of construction styles and building materials, as well as health and safety and asbestos legislation is desirable, but not essential. However, the successful candidate must be committed to undertaking industry training, such as the BOHS P405, to achieve competency in asbestos management (unless the qualification is already held). The Estates and Facilities Directorate provides essential services to Durham University and is responsible for managing, maintaining and developing the infrastructure and building fabric of the various campuses. Essential Criteria Qualifications/Experience 1. Five GCSEs at least Grade C or level four (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics or a Post-16 qualification or equivalent experience. 2. Management of Asbestos in Buildings (BOHS P405), or willingness to work toward obtaining qualification. 3. Professional practitioner with knowledge and experience in an estates or construction environment. 4. Experience of working within a team to ensure the delivery of high-quality services. 5. Experience of contributing to the delivery of estates or construction related, services. 6. Experience of providing advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues 7. Experience of managing time to meet deadlines. Skills/Abilities/Knowledge 8. Excellent spoken and written communication skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships, both internally and externally. 9. Strong digital competence across a range of digital devices and apps including digital communication tools and Microsoft 365 applications. 10. Committed to continuing professional development. 11. Ability to solve problems yourself and as part of a team and plan appropriate solutions. 12. Knowledge of health and safety issues and compliance. 13. Ability to participate in networks to share and discuss good practice and exchange information. Desirable Criteria 1. Previous experience of asbestos management. 2. BOHS P402, P403, P404 or equivalent. 3. Experience of dealing with contractors. 4. CSCS Card. 5. SMSTS or equivalent.
