About newcleo
Since launching in 2021, newcleo has quickly established itself as an innovator in the field of nuclear energy. newcleo is working to design, build, and operate Gen-IV Advanced Modular Reactors (AMRs) that are cooled by liquid lead and fueled by reprocessed nuclear waste.
Through an innovative combination of existing and proven technologies, and by reviving a nuclear industry model based on the manufacture and multi-recycling of Mixed Oxide fuel, newcleo aims to close the nuclear fuel cycle while safely producing clean, affordable, and practically inexhaustible energy required for low carbon economies.
With a EUR 50m group turnover in 2024, more than EUR 400m of private funding, and over 70 partnerships and collaborations across the nuclear industry, the growth of the newcleo group is supported through the targeted acquisition of key companies with strong capabilities in nuclear engineering, manufacturing, and waste management.
Through its workforce of over 800 highly qualified employees across France, the UK, Italy, Switzerland, and Slovakia, newcleo is not only developing and delivering the skills and services required for the group’s own ambitious project timelines but also supporting the development of Small Modular Reactor supply chains in Europe and beyond.
Overview of the role:
newcleo is driving forwards an exciting and challenging international programme to develop and deploy our innovative Lead-cooled Fast Reactor technology. newcleo has ambitions to enter into the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process and is currently undertaking activities to prepare for prospective entry into the process.
The GDA Delivery Lead(s) will provide leadership and coordination across a group of technical Topics for development of the Safety, Security, Safeguards, and Environmental cases in support of Generic Design Assessment (GDA) of our FCU.
As a priority activity, we are bringing in a Delivery Lead to help us build the overall GDA delivery plan and shape the GDA delivery arrangements working closely with global engineering, engineering authority teams, and PMO. You will work closely with newcleo colleagues and key stakeholders to drive towards successful delivery of a 2-step GDA.
During GDA itself, it is envisioned the Delivery Lead(s) will act as the interface between the GDA Project Manager and our Topic Leads, with a broad technical awareness across a range of safety, security, safeguards, and environment topics. They will have effective project management skills, tracking progress for the Topic deliverables (strategies, plans, and reports). The Delivery Lead(s) will facilitate consistency within the project whilst driving collaboration on cross-cutting topics.
Reporting to our GDA & Safety Case Project Manager, UK Operations, the core duties & areas the role will cover include:
GDA Preparation Activities
* Work closely with the Topic Leads and GDA PM to lead on the development of the integrated plan for 2-step GDA, specifically focusing on S3E case submissions delivery planning.
* Support the GDA & Safety Case Project Manager in establishing interface arrangements between our global engineering teams, the PMO, and other key stakeholders for delivery of GDA.
* Taking the outputs from our ongoing GDA topic strategy delivery work, interface with relevant technical teams to develop a delivery plan for a 2-step GDA.
* Delivery scope will include delivery of the overarching top-tier reports right through to underpinning evidence and references. The delivery plan needs to recognise design development timeframes and Design Reference Point strategy to ensure our submissions are timed appropriately to ensure a meaningful GDA assessment can be undertaken.
GDA & Safety Case Delivery (From Step 1 onwards)
* Effectively manage the delivery of Safety, Security, and Environment case deliverables for topics in their respective areas, as the interface between the GDA Project Manager and Topic Leads. Along with the Topic Leads, ensure UK context is driven into our design deliverables.
* Implement effective interface arrangements between our global engineering teams, the PMO, and other key stakeholders. Work with the other Delivery Lead(s) and Design Teams to coordinate delivery on cross-cutting topic areas across the design.
* Provide project reporting to our Technical Working Group and Steering Committees, including identification and escalation of risks and issues. The Delivery Lead(s) work with the respective Topic Leads to develop and enact mitigation plans in response to risks and issues.
* Supporting regulatory interactions in their topic areas. This includes supporting Level 3 and 4 regulatory interface meetings as required, and planning and monitoring of regulatory queries, observations, and issues within areas of responsibility.
* Manage commercial arrangements to ensure supply chain support is available for identified topic areas.
Full duties & responsibilities are available on request.
The role can be based in our London or Gloucester offices, where we have a hybrid & flexible working policy of 3 days per week in the office. There are also travel opportunities to our offices in Turin (Italy) and Lyon (France), in order to collaborate and build strong working relationships across our Global Team.
The role will also offer ongoing opportunities for growth & development depending on your career motivations, and is a key position for us to achieve our project success.
Is this role right for you?
