Job Overview
We are seeking a Lead Technician in our coating department, to join the Norville team here at our optical lens manufacturing plant in Gloucester. You will play a key role in supporting the team's Supervisor overseeing our coating department. Your guidance and technical expertise will contribute in helping plan and coordinate work flow and plant equipment for the purpose of all coating operations to produce optics at the right quality and on time. This is a later shift from 2pm - 10pm daily (no weekends).
Responsibilities
1. Delivery
o Support the Coating Supervisor in monitoring and prioritising daily workflows ensuring jobs are processed efficiently.
o Assist in the delivery of key communications.
o Monitor hour by hour boards and raise any issues with your Supervisor.
o Help achieve consistent and stable delivery times to our customers.
o Monitor the labs Clean Room Protocols.
2. Process Improvement
o In collaboration with the Coating Supervisor and Head of Production continuously analyse and optimise the coating processes, seeking opportunities for efficiency enhancements and cost reduction while maintaining or improving product quality.
3. Equipment Maintenance
o Working with Norville’s Maintenance Manager and coating Supervisor oversee the maintenance and upkeep of all coating machinery.
o Support the Supervisor in coordinating with maintenance teams and equipment suppliers to ensure optimal equipment performance.
4. Quality Assurance
o Work with the Coating Supervisor to implement and maintain rigorous quality control processes to guarantee the precision and accuracy of all produced lenses.
o Keep abreast of and adhere to industry standards and internal specifications.
o Monitor product standards and escalate issues to the Head of Production.
o Help drive continuous improvement activities through implementation of change management processes and best practice.
o Ensure all products are produced on time and at the right quality.
o Ensure all quality control documentation is completed.
5. Cost
o Report any shortage of stock or consumables on time and to the Head of Production.
6. Team Supervision
o Support the Supervisor to mentor a team of coating technicians, providing guidance and feedback to ensure the achievement of production goals and quality standards.
o Accurately assess workflow and raise any issue to the supervisor accordingly.
o Support a culture of teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
7. Health and Safety
o Ensure a safe working environment by adhering to all safety regulations and promoting safety practices among the team.
o Ensuring that all plant equipment is maintained to manufacturers recommendations and the cleanliness and general housekeeping within the department is of the highest standards.
o Being an advocate for following health and safety guidelines and encouraging colleagues to follow these.
8. Reporting and Analysis
o Support in the maintenance of detailed records of production metrics, quality control results, and equipment maintenance schedules.
Skills & Experience
* Demonstrable knowledge of coating processes.
* Previous experience and robust working knowledge of coating equipment.
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
* Excellent organisational, communication, and supervisory skills.
* Understanding of safety regulations and compliance in the eyewear manufacturing industry.
* Proven track record of collaborating with cross-functional teams.
* Proven experience in a team leader role.
* Demonstrable experience in mentoring a team.
