We are currently seeking an aspirational operations manager who will continue to look after this legacy and its stakeholders, whilst raising the bar at the same time.
As an Operations Site Manager, you will be accountable for the operational management of Abbey Mills strategic pumping station, including health and safety, people, assets and finance.
Constructed in the 1860s, the Abbey Mills Pumping Station stands as a fantastic legacy of its designer, Sir Joseph Bazalgette. This architectural marvel is a beacon of Victorian and industrial design, while also serving as a critical component of London's sewerage infrastructure. Housing six pumping stations with a total of 34 pumps, the Abbey Mills facility pumps sewage into the Northern Outfall Sewer, which then conveys the waste onwards towards Beckton. Additionally, the station provides a crucial connection point into the Thames Tideway Tunnel.
What you’ll be doing as a Site Manager
As Site Manager you’ll be responsible to drive operational excellence whilst managing multiple stakeholders, as well ensuring our environmental, legal and regulatory obligations are met. You will lead a team of technicians and activities on site to ensure the pumping stations operate safely, plant is maintained, and we promote and sustain an excellent health and safety culture.
* Ensuring statutory planned and reactive maintenance is carried out as well as effective performance management of the team, contractors and other stakeholders.
* Financial management through owning and managing the budgetary and financial activities of the team and driving efficiencies into the overall operational budget. Securing funding where required for capital expenditure.
* Performance management by ensuring the team achieve optimal performance in terms of work management. You will also be responsible for developing the team and introducing new skills and health and safety awareness.
* Effectively lead the health and safety culture of the team.
* Successfully managing the interaction between Abbey Mills and the Thames Tideway Tunnel.
What you should bring to the role
This role reflects the importance and function that Abbey Mills strategic pumping station occupies within waste networks.
* A zero-compromise approach to Health and Safety. Good working knowledge of health and safety legislation is essential.
* Effective stakeholder management. Highly logical - able to decide on solutions efficiently.
* Collaborative – able to work closely with multiple stakeholders and manage a large workload of numerous jobs in parallel.
* Technically experienced with a good understanding of pumping stations.
* Financial management and commercial awareness to drive efficiencies.
* Previous experience in leading a high-performing operational team and have excellent people and performance management skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong IT literacy skills.
* Knowledge and experience working within the Wastewater industry is desirable.
* Have a full valid driving license as you will have to travel across the Thames Water catchment area.
