Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Milton Keynes (on-site, 5 days per week)
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Join ALTEN, a leading engineering consultancy partnering with some of the UK's most advanced engineering programmes. We are supporting a cutting-edge project requiring the design and development of mechanical enclosures for high-performance electronic systems. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you’ll be working on-site with a forward-thinking engineering team, contributing from initial concept through to validation. This is an opportunity to get hands-on with full-lifecycle design in a highly technical, quality-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the mechanical design and development of enclosures for complex electronic products.
* Support the full NPI lifecycle: from initial specifications through to prototyping, verification, and validation.
* Produce and maintain detailed engineering documentation, drawings, and BOMs.
* Apply your knowledge of materials, tolerancing, and manufacturing processes to create robust, fit-for-purpose designs.
* Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration with electrical and systems engineering.
QualificationsEssential Skills & Experience:
* A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
* Proven experience in mechanical design within an NPI environment.
* Strong proficiency in SOLIDWORKS (or similar 3D CAD tools).
* Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials selection, and manufacturing techniques (e.g. CNC, injection moulding, sheet metal).
* Ability to generate clear, concise technical documentation and engineering reports.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team.
