Project Overview
We are recruiting a Labourer to support a major National Grid substation project at Necton. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to break into the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) industry. As the site is not yet under National Grid rules, you do not need to hold National Grid authorisations to begin. The client will support successful candidates in obtaining the required National Grid tickets during the project - an ideal way to gain valuable experience on a long-term energy infrastructure scheme.
Role Summary
As a Labourer, you will work closely with the site team to assist with general site upkeep, welfare facility maintenance, delivery handling, and other duties as directed by the Site Manager. Your contribution will help maintain a safe, efficient, and tidy working environment across this live substation site.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintain cleanliness and functionality of welfare facilities, including generator upkeep.
2. Support site housekeeping and general manual labour tasks.
3. Accept and manage deliveries, including escorting vehicles/drivers on site.
4. Assist the site team with day-to-day operations as required.
5. Follow site safety protocols and company HSQE policies.
6. Work effectively within a team to support safe and timely project delivery.
Essential Requirements
1. Full UK driving licence.
2. Valid CSCS Card or CCNSG Safety Passport.
3. Physically fit and able to safely navigate construction environments for extended periods.
Desirable Qualifications
1. Previous experience on substation or infrastructure projects.
2. CPCS Vehicle Banksman certification.
3. SSEN Cat 1 (advantageous, but not essential).
Working Conditions
1. Site-based role: Must be able to work on foot for up to 10 hours/day on rough terrain and in all weather conditions.
2. Schedule: 50 hours per week (Monday to Friday), with weekend working opportunities.
3. Travel: Candidates must be able to arrange their own travel and accommodation if required.
This is a great entry-level opportunity for individuals looking to develop a long-term career within the National Grid environment and the wider T&D sector.
