The Position
BNRG is seeking a Senior Development Manager (DM) to join our UK Development team. Reporting to the UK Programme Manager, The DM will manage all matters relating to land, planning and grid for new utility scale solar and storage projects in the UK.
The DM will be interfacing with a variety of stakeholders such as local landowners, electricity network operators, local planning authorities and technical advisors. The DM will be required to take initiative and make preliminary assessments on opportunities identified which will include working with the internal finance team to determine viability of the projects for development.
Responsibilities:
The main responsibilities of the position will include but are not limited to:
* Supporting the development of utility scale PV and storge portfolio from inception through to ready to build status.
* Secure land rights – negotiate with landowners and agents to secure Heads of Terms, Option and Lease Agreements, working with internal legal counsel and external law firms.
* Secure planning permissions – develop project planning applications through either local authority TCPA (Town and County Planning Act) or DCO (Development Consent Order) consenting processes. Co-ordination of various technical and environmental advisors to inform the planning applications, making sure that all planning submissions, appeals and RFI's are lodged in a timely manner.
* Secure and maintain grid connection arrangements – working with grid advisors and specialists to secure and maintain grid offers to both transmission and distribution networks.
* Layout designs – work with designers to assess site suitability and optimise layouts for utility scale PV and storage, prepare preliminary layout designs for sites identified using tools such as Rated Power design software.
* Site assessments – use GIS based tools to undertake site screening and constraint analysis.
* Work with the commercial team to prepare and maintain investment models feeding in technical input assumptions.
* Help undertake due diligence of potential acquisition opportunities, coordinating advisors as needed.
* Manage internal approvals, project budgets, risk management, health and safety, and quality.
Job requirements:
The ideal candidate will have >4 years of experience in the renewable energy industry working on project development activities. The candidate should display strong business acumen, leadership, communication, coordination, problem-solving and negotiation skills. The candidate will be capable of working across complex organisations and dynamic environments that are prone to regular change.
* A minimum of an undergraduate degree in a related field
* 4 years of experience in renewable project development
* The following would be beneficial:
* Familiarity with solar PV and storage layout design
* Familiarity with grid connection arrangements
* Knowledge of UK planning policy
* Familiarity with construction arrangements and terminology
* Use of GIS based tools for site assessment
* Enthusiasm to develop new solar and storage facilities
* Hybrid remote position with ability to travel throughout the UK and spend time at our head office in Dublin
* Strong process orientation
* Strong verbal and written communications skills are essential
* Experience and expertise with MS Office applications
