Storyteller Volunteer
Location: Tadley (Hampshire)
Time Commitment:2 hours per week (or every other week)
We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic volunteer to bring books and stories to life for the people we support. Your role will be to make reading fun, interactive, and engaging. You'll help to create a love for stories through expressive reading, sound effects, and sensory books.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
1. Read books aloud in an engaging and animated way.
2. Use different voices, sound effects, and expressions to make stories come alive.
3. Incorporate interactive elements such as touch-and-feel books, props, and music.
4. Encourage participation through questions, actions, or role-playing.
5. Adapt storytelling to suit the needs and interests of the audience.
6. Foster a positive and inclusive reading experience for all.
Skills Required:
* To be passionate about reading and confident with reading to others.
* To have a good sense of humour, love to chat and be a good listener.
* To be punctual and reliable.
* To be kind, empathetic and patient.
* To be able to deal with information in line with our data protection and confidentiality procedures.
* To be able to assist when necessary with sighted guide/orientation.

To ensure the safety of the people we support, we require a DBS check and two satisfactory references before a volunteer role is confirmed. As you will be volunteering directly with vulnerable individuals, you will also be required to undertake safeguarding training, as well as any training which is specific to the role.
