Welcome to The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and thank you for your interest in this role.
We have over 2 million patient contacts each year in our main hospitals, making us one of the biggest providers of specialist care in the UK, and we serve people from across the whole of the Northeast, North Cumbria and beyond. We are continuing our journey for our system's plans for greater collaboration to develop, enhance, and improve clinical pathways resulting in better patient experience and outcomes.
We acknowledge that we are living in very challenging times for the NHS both locally and nationally. Our Trust has much work to do to improve and respond to the findings of our most recent CQC inspection report and with our new Chair and Chief Executives in place, we now have an opportunity to refresh our Board and appoint two new Non-Executive Directors (NEDs).
For the two NED roles, we are looking for NEDs predominantly with:
1. Commercial expertise
2. People/HR expertise.
Main duties of the job
Overall we are looking for individuals who will provide constructive challenge, independence of thought, support diverse insight and strategic input, and ensure that we have robust systems of risk management and governance in place.
The role of the NEDs is to support the Board of Directors in providing an independent view on the Trust's strategy, to oversee implementation of national strategies and regulatory compliance, and to work collaboratively with our Council of Governors. In addition, as a NED you will be involved in the work of the Trust Committees.
We are committed to increasing the diversity of our existing Board, and positively improve the balance of people from ethnic minority groups. To support this, we encourage applications from people in minoritised communities whose background, experience and identity will broaden and enhance a balance of perspectives in navigating the challenges we face going forward.
About us
As a NED, you are required to provide independence of thought and constructive challenge as well as support executives and demonstrate commitment to the enduring values of NHS.
We are interested in the difference and insights your knowledge, expertise from your background, experience, training or career progression will bring to Board discussions and how they will contribute to the effective governance and diversity of the Trust Board.
The remuneration for the NEDs is £15,000 per annum with a time commitment of around 4-5 days per month.
For an informal discussion with the Interim Shared Chair or Chief Executive then please contact Kelly Jupp, Trust Secretary on 0191 223 1702 or k.jupp@nhs.net.
