Job Purpose Provide leadership across the National Wealth Fund’s objective to support economic growth, shaping NWF strategy, supporting specific investments, and managing key stakeholder relationships across government and externally to shape NWF policy. The post-holder will hold day-to-day management of the growing economic growth policy team. This is a 12-month fixed term contract / secondment opportunity Location: Hybrid working with a minimum of 3 days per week in the Leeds office. Salary: £75,000 - £90,000 per annum Core Role Accountabilities Develop the NWF’s approach to delivering our economic growth strategic objective. Provide valued thought leadership on these topics both internally and externally, drawing on own expert knowledge across government and externally. Lead input into development of NWF strategy and policy decisions related to delivering the economic growth objective, working across the NWF and with external stakeholders. Influence NWF organisational transition, including through shaping an expanded mandate to support the new Industrial Strategy. Identify connections between complex public policy and private market developments in order to enable the NWF to deliver on our objectives. Lead the NWF’s relationships with UK government departments and external stakeholders, Be comfortable and credible holding high-trust relationships with officials in relevant departments and external bodies, from senior leadership to policy experts. Leverage these relationships to enable policy makers to use the NWF’s operational experience and market insight in policy development, and ensure the NWF delivers on government policy priorities. Manage relationships with the Office for Investment, British Business Bank, UK Export Finance and other Public Finance Institutions to deliver mutual aims and a cohesive investment landscape. Represent the NWF on the delivery of our economic growth strategic objective with senior stakeholders in government departments, local authorities, private sector and partners. Be an ambassador for the NWF, showcasing the NWF’s mission and purpose. Lead projects with functions across the Bank, including banking, risk, impact, local authority lending and advisory and portfolio management, to deliver joint outputs that ensure that economic growth is embedded into all operations. This includes e nsuring a cohesive and accurate approach to analysis of regional and local economic growth through all stages of investment lifecycle. Deliver strategic investment opportunities in pursuit of our mission, focusing on digital technologies, transport, advanced manufacturing and local authority opportunities and potential new sectors across the Industrial Strategy. Work with teams internally and externally to proactively identify and support a strong pipeline of investments. Provide all aspects of policy and strategic due diligence on individual transactions, working with government departments, contributing to Investment Committee (IC) papers and attending IC meetings as well as verbal and written briefings for Executive Committee members. Provide leadership and management to the growing economic growth policy team, helping to set strategic direction, priorities, and develop a high-performing team. Support the Deputy Director for Economic Growth. Knowledge, Skill and Experience requirements Experience of influencing and delivering government policy. Experience developing and implementing strategy, resolving complex issues effectively and quickly. Confident and capable engaging with and influencing senior partners, creating and nurturing strategic relationships. Significant experience of working at a senior level within an investment-focused government department, local authority, delivery partner or public finance institution. Team leadership and management experience. Personally enthused by the NWF’s twin missions of supporting economic growth and Net Zero.
