Job Description:
As a Business Development Engineer, you will combine technical expertise with commercial insight to identify, progress and develop new and existing business opportunities. You will be a key contributor in shaping product solutions, driving growth, and aligning customer and broader market needs with the company's technological capabilities. In this role, you will bridge the technical and commercial functions of the company, ensuring that product offerings are both technically robust and commercially viable to drive growth and customer satisfaction.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Technical Consultation: Engaging with customers to understand their requirements, analysing and determining the best technical and commercial solutions to meet those needs.
2. New Product Development: Providing input on new concepts based on customer needs, observable trends and market demand, contributing to the company's product development roadmap.
3. Customer Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal & external customers and the sales team, liaising with them to meet their needs, and representing their interests within the company.
4. Preparing Quotations For AAG's Standard/Legacy Product Range: Analysing BOMs (Bills Of Materials), drawings and preparing costs, working with procurement, planning and engineering to provide quotations within a fixed timeframe.
5. New Product (NPI) Bid Support - Technical & Commercial Proposals: You will manage the process from initial customer enquiry through developing and submitting compelling proposals. You will work closely with internal functions such as engineering, procurement, program management & sales to collect and combine information to prepare proposals that encapsulate the best solutions to strict deadlines.
6. Collaboration with Digital Marketing: Working closely with Digital Marketing to help prepare technical publications, brochures and datasheets to help market our products and expertise.
7. Market Analysis: Analysing trends, competitor offerings, and emerging technologies to identify growth opportunities and make recommendations to shape product strategy.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have an engineering background and previous practical experience in the Aerospace, Defence, Automotive (Land Systems) or Systems Engineering.
1. Technical Expertise: A strong engineering or technical background is essential to understand complex product specifications, customer requirements, and the technical aspects of potential solutions.
2. Commercial Awareness: Understanding market dynamics, pricing strategies, and customer value propositions to develop commercially viable solutions. This role requires aligning technical solutions with customer demands and financial goals.
3. Analytical Skills: Proficient in gathering and analysing market and competitor data for reporting purposes, developing costing models, and examining bills of materials (BOMs), drawings, and pricing data to support competitive bids.
4. Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Confident and effective communication is crucial for engaging with customers, understanding their needs, translating those into actionable requirements for internal teams and building and maintaining relationships with customers, sales, and engineering teams.
5. Proposal Development: The ability to manage the proposal process, synthesise technical and commercial information, and craft compelling, persuasive proposals (Value Proposition) to secure new business.
6. Collaboration and Cross-functional Coordination: An ability to collaborate across departments are essential to refine specifications and develop cohesive solutions.
7. Customer-Centric Mindset: Understanding customer needs and representing their interests within the company to shape solutions that exceed expectations.
8. Strategic Thinking and Adaptability: This role requires a strategic mindset to anticipate future market needs, adapt to emerging trends, and contribute to the product development roadmap in alignment with long-term business goals.
9. Results-Oriented and Deadline-Driven: Focusing on achieving outcomes within specified timeframes, especially in developing proposals and managing projects.
