If so, we would love to hear from you! We’re looking for a Countryside Volunteer Ranger to join our Community Engagement and Countryside team.
Our Service:
The Parks and Grounds Service includes management of arboriculture, horticulture, community infrastructure (such as for play and allotments), delivery of commercial services directly to customers and businesses, and extensive partnership working with a diverse range of stakeholders.
The role:
As our Countryside Volunteer Ranger, you will manage specific sites for the protection of biodiversity as well as historical and geological features. You will coordinate the work with volunteers and volunteer groups and support them to deliver programmes of work associated with site-specific land management plans, working towards the groups’ self-sufficiency. You will also work closely with community groups and build and maintain relationships with town and parish councils, division councillors, and external organisations.
This role will include some evening and weekend work (outside of normal office hours) and travel across North Yorkshire.
The posts are classified as suitable for hybrid working with an office base at one of the local Council Offices. Travel will be required across the county.
What you will bring:
To be successful, you will need:
* Experience of countryside management and conservation work
* Experience of creating and maintaining records/populations relating to habitat protection and wildlife areas
* Ability to use a wide variety of hand and power tools, including chainsaws
* Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
* Highly organised and able to work to tight deadlines
* Have an adaptable, flexible, and proactive approach with the ability to make decisions.
Ideally, we are looking for someone who has experience of leading and supervising volunteers, external groups, and organisations; however, this is not essential as full training will be given.
