We're a national law firm with a local reach. Our philosophy is 'we're legal and financial experts that care' - something you'll find in the way we work with our clients and how we support our teams. But we're more than just a law firm - we're a team of people working together to help individuals and businesses navigate life's ups and downs. Working here you'll feel a part of our friendly and inclusive environment.
We'll value you for who you are and what you bring. We support each other and push boundaries to achieve incredible things and make a real difference to our clients and communities.
Your Role and What You'll Be Doing
Our International Serious Injury Team in Manchester deals exclusively with serious injury claims with the added complexity of cross-border litigation. We pride ourselves on making a real difference and helping people to live a life as full as possible after a serious injury. This is litigation of the most challenging nature and regularly involves making new law or pushing the boundaries of existing law as the cases concerned deal with complex issues of applicable law, liability and jurisdictional arguments.
The International Serious Injury team acts exclusively for individuals who have sustained injuries as a result of accidents abroad, or foreign residents who are injured whilst visiting the UK. The team deals with employers' liability, package holiday, aviation, cruise, RTA, clinical negligence and public liability matters. Many of our clients have suffered catastrophic injuries and the role will involve some travel to meet clients and family members and to attend Court hearings and conferences with experts and/or counsel.
You will play an integral role in the team, and your role will include:
* Line management responsibilities
* Contribution towards national team objectives and business development activity
* Technical supervision of cases across the team, including national input where required
* Running your own caseload of matters
* Working together with other Case Handlers to provide legal support on a number of cases to deliver an outstanding client experience and progress litigation
* Attending face to face client meetings predominantly across the North of England, occasionally nationwide
* Attending business development events in the North
* Attending internal meetings at our Manchester office at regular intervals
You will be responsible for ensuring that client queries are dealt with quickly, efficiently and with empathy, taking appropriate actions. You will work independently under supervision and as part of a team to progress cases in accordance with the department's procedures to meet agreed targets.
About You
* A proven track record in multi-track Serious Injury work either from a Claimant or Defendant perspective. Experience in travel litigation/cross border claims is desirable but not essential, as training and supervision will be provided.
* These claims are based in negligence, breach of contract, misrepresentation and breach of statutory duty. A key understanding of all of these areas will be essential to the successful prosecution of claims on behalf of Claimants.
* Foreign language skills would be desirable but not essential.
* We believe the role would best suit a solicitor/Chartered Legal Exec with 4 years plus PQE
Our Benefits - What We Can Offer You
* 25 days holidays as standard plus bank holidays - You can 'buy' up to 35hrs of extra holiday too.
* Generous and flexible pension schemes.
* Volunteering days - Two days of volunteering every year for a cause of your choice (fully paid)
* Westfield Health membership, offering refunds on medical services alongside our Aviva Digital GP services.
We also offer a wide range of well-being initiatives to encourage positive mental health both in and out of the workplace and to make sure you're fully supported. This includes our Flexible by Choice programme which gives our colleagues more choice over a hybrid way of working subject to role, team and client requirements.
We have been ranked in the Best Workplaces for Wellbeing for Large Organisations for 2024!
Our responsible business programmes are fundamental to who we are and our purpose. We're committed to being a diverse and inclusive workplace where our colleagues can flourish, and we have established a number of inclusion network groups across our business to support this aim.
Our commitment to Social Responsibility, community investment activity and tackling climate change is a fundamental part of who we are. It's made up of four strands: Our People, Our Community, Our Environment and Our Pro Bono.
