Our client is growing! This is an exciting new role to support their business with its rapid growth and success. They’re looking for a Design Engineer to join the team in their new office located in West Yorkshire. You will be the first in this department within the West Yorkshire office, while benefiting from the full support of their design team based in the South West, and ultimately playing a key role in their goal to achieve a zero-carbon future.
About the Role
Reporting to the CEO, the Design Engineer has responsibility and ownership of all technical documents relating to mechanical and electrical design. The Design Engineer works alongside other departments in the business, in addition to liaising with suppliers and sub-contractors, to develop and deliver technical support and solutions on projects including commercial rooftop and ground-mounted solar PV installations.
Roles and Responsibilities
* Manage the development of cost-effective design and engineering solutions and deliver complete design packages for project proposals (including tenders).
* Create initial/draft designs from information obtained through technical site surveys and feasibility assessments to determine estimated project costs.
* Complete budget and fully quoted grid connection applications, alongside setting up connection surgeries. Engage with the DNO throughout the project to ensure projects are successfully completed.
* Undertake initial yield assessment of potential solar sites alongside data analysis to determine optimum array size and layout. PVSol/PVsyst is utilised to determine yield and onsite usage of PV generation.
* Produce detailed designs and technical specifications and drawings using PVSol, PVsyst, PVcase and CAD alongside manufacturer software i.e. SolarEdge Designer, K2 etc.
* Manage technical relationships with sub-contractors, funders and Distribution Network Operators.
* Ensure full compliance with quality and H&S systems.
* Support the specification of components for the procurement process.
* Responsible for the procurement of products and goods for use in the business whilst regularly identifying potential new supplier sources and negotiating favourable payment terms.
* Provide quality advice and installation support where required during the construction phase.
* Assist in the survey of potential future projects.
* Ensure all commissioning paperwork is correct and liaise with the client on technical matters including system handover.
* Research and development in solar technology for new product development and stay current on new technological developments in the field.
Skills and Experience
* Experience working in the solar/renewables industry is essential.
* Experience using PVsol, PVsyst, PVcase and CAD is essential.
* Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
* Excellent organisational skills are essential.
* Excellent knowledge of MS Office is essential.
* Working knowledge of Hubspot CRM would be desirable.
* Working knowledge of Google Sheets is desirable.
Salary
The salary on offer for this role is up to £45,000 per annum depending on experience.
