Senior Mechanical Engineer
Location: Harwell
Project Background
The scope of the project is to develop the design, manufacture, test, install, and commission all plant and equipment required to enable the Post Operational Clean Out (POCO) of the site such that they can be handed over for building decommissioning.
The Role
The Optioneering phase and producing of concept design has been completed. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll provide a point of contact with professional engineering colleagues and various stakeholders for discipline-related issues during the design lifecycle, contribute to design reviews and ensure coordination and functionality of design, and consider other options should current trials prove not to be effective.
Day-to-day, you’ll lead and support a range of POCO equipment trial activities, recommend and review design updates, promote effective cooperation across Design and other functional teams, and assist on the resolution of technical and delivery issues, ensuring that the Technical Project Manager is fully briefed and informed of progress. You will assess the correct methods and tools for tasks and provide technical assistance to the wider team, contributing to the preparation/production of drawings in support of basic, detail, and production design in line with recognized ISO standards, to the required time, cost, and quality requirements.
This role is full-time, 37 hours per week, and is at our Harwell site in Oxfordshire. This role requires someone to be on site 4 days a week.
Essential Experience of the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Nuclear experience is preferred but not essential; we will welcome applications from all engineering backgrounds.
Essential:
1. Practical on plant or laboratory trials experience i.e., writing of Risk Assessments and Method Statements and successful implementation
2. Report writing and analytical skills
3. Demonstrates awareness of safety culture
4. HNC/HND minimum in a relevant discipline OR equivalent academic qualification.
Desirable:
1. Mechanical engineering degree
2. Previous experience of using Inventor 3D modelling software (desirable)
