Description You will: Be responsible for the delivery and invigilation of examinations as either: 1. A Room Invigilator (responsible for a single student taking an exam in an individual room) 2. An Assistant Invigilator supporting the Senior Invigilator (responsible for exams of 2300 students) • Ensure examinations abide by the University regulations so there can be no suggestion of improper conduct, unfairness, advantage or disadvantage to any candidate. • Be responsible and/or provide support for the administering and running of invigilated in-person examinations, both computer-based and paper-based. • Carry out administrative work within established processes, with minimal supervision. Start Date: 28/04/2025 End Date:30/09/2026 Working Hours: Potentially up to 50 per week Pay Rate: £13.12 per hour plus holiday pay Location: Nottingham Campuses Dress Code: Casual The duties will include: Establish familiarity with the University’s exam regulations and procedures and ensure these are observed at all times. Conduct invigilation and administration of the exam process in such a way as to cause minimum disruption to candidates. Follow the correct procedure should a candidate become ill, distressed, or behave in a way perceived to be misconduct. Checking of exam papers to ensure all required papers are present. Assisting candidates prior to the start of exam by directing them to their seats and advising them about possessions permitted in exam venues. Making announcements to students informing them of the rules within the exam venue and how to complete their answer sheet/booklet. Ensuring that candidates adhere to the rules within the exam venue • Invigilating during exams, dealing with queries raised by candidates and dealing with examination irregularities in accordance with strict procedures. Checking attendance and identity checks during examinations. Supervising candidates whilst outside the examination venue as and when required (toilet breaks, rest breaks, lunch breaks, etc). Collecting and collating exam scripts at the end of the examination in accordance with strict procedures and the security of exam materials. Supervising candidates leaving the exam venues Be vigilant and report or record any incident of suspected academic misconduct Assist in the implementation of any additional arrangements in place to support candidates with exam adjustments due to disabilities or other conditions Be aware of the requirements of the evacuation procedure and apply it if necessary Further responsibilities for Room Invigilator role: To collect exam materials from designated location and/or report directly to the venue at the specified arrival time. When invigilating an exam for an individual student, submit a full and accurate report recording any incidents, disruptions, or suspected irregularities. Setting up the examination venue and: laying out stationery, equipment and examination papers in accordance with the outlined procedures. following the instructions provided for PC/computer-based exams. Ensure that completed exam scripts are collected, accurately tallied, and delivered to the Exams Office and/or that students have successfully submitted their answers digitally. Further responsibilities for Assistant Invigilator role: Report to the appointed exam venue at the specified arrival time Assist the Senior Invigilator with the distribution of exam papers and materials and the collection of attendance slips Observe candidates and check the desks of candidates occupying the area(s) of the exam room assigned to you by the Senior Invigilator. Assist with the management of toilet breaks, rest breaks and emergency evacuations as required. At the end of the exam, collect all papers and materials from the candidate desks assigned to you by the Senior Invigilator. Assisting with the preparation of script marking envelopes. Skills and experience required for the role: ESSENTIAL: Ability to work effectively in a busy and pressured environment A high degree of attention to detail Ability to adhere to strict procedural and operational protocols Work effectively as part of a team Ability to work with discretion, tact and diplomacy A good standard of written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate information helpfully and accurately Proactive and able to work with minimal supervision and guidance Good IT skills, with the ability to use standard IT packages such as Microsoft Office Ability to use your initiative Highly organised Experience of handling sensitive information with a high degree of confidentiality Have cross cultural sensitivity Experience of working accurately, and adapting to learn new skills and procedures Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, including Grade 4 or above in English Language and Maths, or hold vocational qualifications (NVQ 2) or equivalent, with some relevant office/administrative experience. Or Equivalent work experience in a comparable role.
