The role will sit within the Firm's Finance Department, which consists of more than 50 members of staff in the UK and 25 in London. The department looks after all aspects of the Firm's accounts and finances including the LexisOne practice management system, billing, credit control, disbursements, accounts payable, expenses and client and office bank accounts. The role of Billing Assistant will sit within the Accounts team. The role of the Biller will be to support the revenue controller's with actions arising from their control of the WIP management cycle and to maintain a flow of accurate billings in line with agreed targets. The role is also to support the general billing folder / IP folder for the UK and SV offices. The role of the billing assistant will require an overview and application of all aspects of the billing of WIP in a professional services firm, a visible presence and interaction with partners and a key interaction with other functions within the accounts team. Working with a range of different departments and clients issuing invoices in various styles To ensure that all bills are raised in accordance with agreed billing instructions or client requirements eg retainer bills. To understand exception rates on clients and matters and from time to time coordinating adjustments to fee earner rates on client/matter files Coordination of write offs to all also include time and disbursement transfers, time divisions, revaluations and file closures A bit about you Can develop strong working relationships with the billing team learning all billing aspects relating to the different types of billing/e-billing across the firm. Requires strong understanding of the billing procedures in a professional services firm and detailed knowledge of alternative billing arrangements, SAR and VAT issues impacting on billing. Must be able to communicate effectively with individual Partners, Fee Earners and PA’s in a professional and personable manner. This is a key role for the visibility of the accounts team and so must be professional and presentable at all times. Needs to be able to provide value and quality in all preparation, drafting and finalisation of invoices issued.
