You will be working on ward 22, a short stay rehab unit at Leicester General Hospital, alongside Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, carrying out treatment programmes for medical patients with a variety of conditions.
Main duties of the job
This post requires a high level of personal responsibility. We are looking for a person with a mature outlook, good communication skills, organisational skills, and the ability to use their initiative. You will need to be motivated, organised, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Experience working within a healthcare setting is essential, ideally as a therapy assistant. A clear understanding of the role of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy is required. The ability to use computers is desirable, as some administrative and clerical duties are involved.
You will receive comprehensive trust and service induction, regular supervision, annual appraisal, and a training programme to support your development.
Post holders will work core hours Monday to Friday, with possible weekend and Bank Holiday shifts on a roster system.
Job responsibilities
Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy provide key therapeutic assessments and interventions to promote independence and facilitate optimum function for individuals. You will work with patients, families, carers, and the multi-disciplinary team to achieve agreed outcomes.
* Contribute to the provision of Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Speech and Language Therapy within a specified clinical area, including clinical, administrative, and educational roles.
* Carry a clinical caseload discussed and delegated by the relevant team member.
* Work to Therapy and UHL Service priorities.
* Work with patients, carers, and families in a sensitive and professional manner.
* Liaise with other professionals for the benefit of the patient.
* Support those who may have complex needs, including physical, psychological, and communication difficulties.
Person Specification
* GCSE English/Maths - or equivalent
* Experience working within a team
* Experience in a healthcare setting/previous therapy support worker role
* Effective communication skills
* Understanding of the role of OT/PT in an acute setting
* Experience or understanding of patients with neurological conditions
