This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced PE Teaching Assistant, Sports Coach, or aspiring PE Teacher looking to gain valuable experience in an educational setting.
Role Overview:
As a PE HLTA, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality physical education sessions, supporting both PE teachers and students in a varied and rewarding role. You will be responsible for assisting with lesson planning, leading small group activities and ensuring all students have access to inclusive and engaging PE lessons. Additionally, you will help to develop extra-curricular sports clubs and encourage a culture of fitness and well-being within the school.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver engaging and structured PE lessons, working closely with teaching staff to enhance the school’s sports curriculum.
2. Lead small group sessions and one-to-one support, ensuring all students are actively participating and developing their physical skills.
3. Encourage students to develop teamwork, resilience and a positive attitude towards physical activity.
4. Assist in organising sports events, competitions and extra-curricular activities to promote student engagement.
5. Support the PE department with lesson planning, assessments and resource preparation.
6. Provide classroom cover when required, demonstrating strong classroom management skills.
7. Foster a safe and inclusive sporting environment where all students feel confident and motivated.
8. Uphold safeguarding and health & safety standards within all sporting activities.
Requirements of PE Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA):
1. Previous experience as a PE HLTA, PE Teaching Assistant, Sports Coach, or similar role in an educational or youth sports setting.
2. A strong understanding of physical education principles, child development and behaviour management strategies.
3. A relevant qualification in Sports, Physical Education, or Coaching (Level 3 or higher preferred).
4. A passion for promoting health, fitness and well-being among young people.
5. Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
6. The ability to manage groups effectively, ensuring discipline and positive participation in all activities.
7. Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
