Purpose of the role:
To support the Finance Manager in the reconciliation and end to end maintenance of the overheads, with a specific focus on travel costs and fixed assets. As part of our continuous improvement, the role will be an important part in identifying and driving transformation within the finance function, in order to streamline and maximise resources.
Role Dimensions
Work Arrangement: We have adopted hybrid working across the team, requiring a minimum of three days in the office each week. Flexibility with working hours will be required to meet the operational demands of the teams that you support.
Principle accountabilities
The post holder will be responsible for:
Daily tasks – 70%
1. Support the Senior Associate in reconciling hotel bills, ensuring accurate coding.
2. Prepare recharge invoices, ensuring proper coding before submission to the Finance Manager.
3. Support with reconciling intercompany transactions to ensure balances align across group entities, including investigating and resolving discrepancies.
4. Assist in reconciling employee benefits and payroll deductions accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
5. Assistance in the review of the fixed asset register, ensuring ledger completeness and accuracy.
6. Contribute to the month-end closing process, including journal postings, reconciliations, and P&L commentary.
7. Collaborate with the Travel team to identify process improvements and enhance operational efficiency.
8. Develop and optimise financial systems and processes to enhance departmental efficiency and task repeatability.
9. Manage the accounting system, including data integrity, user access permissions, and troubleshooting system issues.
10. Ad hoc tasks as required.
Financial reporting and analysis – 20%
1. Assist with interim and year-end audits, ensuring timely response to audit requests and compiling requested information for submission.
2. Support the team with month-end analysis of travel costs, explaining any variances against the budget.
3. Review Overheads in P&L for consistent coding and proper approval.
Cost cap reporting – 10%
1. Identify and escalate any control or process gaps, implementing improvements to minimise the risk of errors and non-compliance.
2. Assist in the monthly coding review to ensure fair and consistent exclusion of costs.
3. Support the submissions to the FIA and assist with ad-hoc FIA inquiries as required.
Knowledge, skills and experiences
1. Working towards or completed AAT qualification, or studying ACA/ACCA/CIMA.
2. Experience working with systems and processes that are undergoing change.
3. Ability to identify and implement continuous improvements to key day to day activities.
4. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders.
5. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
6. Proactive mindset and strong organisational skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
7. Team player, supportive of others within the team.
8. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
9. A track record of getting things done against tight deadlines.
10. Competent IT skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
11. Experience of using SUN Systems (Infor) would be an advantage.

McLaren Racing is based at the iconic McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking. Here at McLaren, we offer hybrid working with 3 days a week based in the MTC.
