Description
Manufacturing Engineer – Production Support - Submarines
Full Time
Why Rolls-Royce?
An exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer role in the Production Support Team has arisen at Rolls-Royce Submarines.
We’re a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine fleet and the sole provider and technical authority.
Join us and we’ll provide an environment where you can be yourself. An inclusive, digital-first culture that invests in you, gives you a platform for continuous learning, and access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities to grow your career.
Our Manufacturing Engineers who provide Production Support are responsible for a group of technical manufacturing processes within large vessel manufacture, pumps & valves, or Core Nuclear reactor products. Through your knowledge of production and process, you will drive continuous improvement activities and process control to ensure manufacturing processes capable of meeting and continually meet quality, cost, delivery rate, and lead time requirements that are delivered on time to the business.
We offer excellent development, a competitive salary, and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance, and employee discounts.
Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home, or another remote location. It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum, we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.
What you will be doing:
Within this exciting opportunity, you will get a chance to have an input into the development of manufacturing processes and/or methods of manufacture and the continuous improvement of these areas.
The product and materials are somewhat novel when compared to other vessel fabrications, pumps, valves, and assemblies for a Pressurised circuit. The optimal candidate would:
* Work within a manufacturing cell, ensuring application of manufacturing process controls within the area of accountability, with authorisation subject to appropriate delegation.
* Have fundamental knowledge of DFMEA / PFMEA to influence Product definition / final form manufacture.
* Ensure that manufacturing processes are followed so that our products conform to their specification. Rigorously raise, investigate, and resolve quality and product safety-related issues.
* Work with interfacing teams and local experts to ensure technical aspects of manufacturing processes and digital systems are understood and accounted for as required.
* Capture and utilise lessons learnt. Identify, document, and share best practices, including by participation in relevant Communities of Practice.
Who we’re looking for:
At Rolls-Royce, we embrace agility, are bold, pursue collaboration, and seek simplicity in everything we do. These principles form our values and behaviours, are an essential component of our assessment process, and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.
* Experience in fabrications, valves, complex assemblies, and machining of critical classified components.
* A degree, or equivalent, in an engineering or related technical discipline with previous experience in a manufacturing engineering and/or process engineering background.
* Strong analytical skills and a proven record of technical problem-solving skills along with knowledge of six sigma / lean techniques.
* Good communicator and able to liaise with staff at all levels.
* Excellent organisational and presentation skills, comfortable presenting at all levels.
We are an equal opportunities employer. We’re committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives. And the more perspectives we have, the more successful we’ll be. By building a culture of respect and appreciation, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.
To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines, you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
