An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic nurse to join our friendly well-established Paediatric Epilepsy Team.
This is a Band 7 role; however, we encourage applicants with experience and interest to apply for a Band 6 development post. There will be an upgrade to Band 7 upon completion of the Paediatric Epilepsy Module/course as defined in-house, following a period of consolidation and assessment of competence. This will be assessed by the Paediatric Epilepsy Nurse Specialist and line manager (Matron for Children's Services).
We are offering a permanent position working up to 37.5 hours per week.
The Paediatric Epilepsy Service has a strong multi-disciplinary team and welcomes enthusiastic and motivated nurses who are passionate about providing excellent care to children and their families.
Our Clinical Nurse Specialists are an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team working together to deliver this specialist service, promoting treatment pathways that empower and support children and their families to manage their condition and help to minimize hospital admissions. You will be responsible for developing and working within evidence-based specialist pathways of care, guidelines, and protocols to support patients and their families to improve care delivery.

Main duties of the job
* To act as a skilled nurse and role model in the care of children and young people with epilepsy and their families. The post holder will demonstrate an excellent understanding and proficiency in the highly specialist nursing care and management of children and young people with epilepsy in both the hospital and community settings.
* To establish themselves as a lead for a caseload of children and young people with epilepsy under the direct care of the consultants. They will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multidisciplinary team and service users. The post holder will work with children and their families/carers from diagnosis throughout their ongoing care and facilitate transition to other services or adult care.
* To act as an expert nurse and role model in the care of children and young people and their families. The post holder will demonstrate a good understanding and proficiency in the highly specialist nursing care and management of children and young people with epilepsy.
* To participate in clinical work and coordination of investigations and relevant tests.
* To make recommendations and identify areas for development and present these to the epilepsy consultants for discussion prior to implementation.
* To be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs of care, with support from the consultant paediatricians and divisional head of nursing as the service dictates, ensuring all activity is recorded as required.
* To use an appropriate level of clinical judgment and autonomous decision-making, depending on the individual post holder's level of experience in specific areas. It is anticipated that the post holder's role and areas of expertise will develop over time; they will coordinate and manage the clinical caseload with a level of autonomy appropriate to the expertise and in close liaison with the epilepsy team. The post holder will proactively prioritize care to meet the needs of the patients undertaking a range of specialist clinical actions.
* To work with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
* To liaise and carry out community (home/school) visits for children and young people with epilepsy.
* To work as a member of the multidisciplinary/multi-agency team, ensuring close collaborative working with other departments/agencies to ensure the patient care needs are met holistically.
* To maintain ongoing education for self to ensure evidence-based practice.

Qualifications
Essential
* NMC registration RNC/RN with substantial paediatric experience
* Mentorship
* Degree in Nursing or related subject
* Substantial experience working as a nurse within Paediatric Epilepsy service
* Teaching and assessing in clinical practice qualification or equivalent
Desirable
* PET 1 and 2
* Masters modules
