Hours: 32.5 Contract Type: Permanent St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School Wychall Lane Birmingham B38 8AP Start Date: 1 September 2025 In partnership with the Archdiocese of Birmingham, the Lumen Christi Board of Directors and School Standards Committee of St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School, we are seeking to appoint an Assistant Principal for September 2025. St Thomas Aquinas is a large and thriving Catholic comprehensive school in the south of Birmingham. Along with eight local primary schools, it is part of a growing Catholic Multi Academy. The Catholic Schools Inspectorate judged the school to be ‘Outstanding’ in all areas and the school has very recently been through another successful Ofsted inspection. GCSE results in summer 2024 were in the top 10% of all schools and colleges nationally. This is a school very much ‘on the up’ and we are increasingly oversubscribed as a result. The person appointed will lead and manage post 16 provision across the school. Driven by a passion for young people and social justice, they will believe that any student can progress to a university of their choice if they are willing to work hard enough. They will have an expert knowledge of programmes of study and the 16-18 educational landscape. The successful candidate will use all their leadership experience of securing outstanding academic outcomes to strategically grow the Sixth Form whilst also raising attainment over the next three years. All of this will be in line with the Catholic values and beliefs that are the bedrock of our school. Their faith will provide the inspiration and direction for all that happens in the Sixth Form. They will bring energy, integrity and drive and undoubtedly be a prime candidate for deputy headship in years to come. This is a wonderful opportunity for the right candidate to make a huge contribution in a major Catholic comprehensive school. This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to all necessary pre-employment checks, including: an enhanced DBS; Prohibition check; Childcare Disqualification (where applicable); qualifications (where applicable); medical fitness; identity and right to work. All applicants will be required to provide two suitable references. Rehabilitation of offenders: This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020. Which means that when applying for certain jobs and activities certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’, so they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account. Further information about filtering offences can be found in the DBS filtering guide. An online search will also be carried out as part of due diligence on all short-listed candidates.
