Job overview
The successful candidate will provide night management and senior clinical and operational leadership across the required boroughs in the appropriate Division providing support to the older peoples, adult and specialist services including oversight of the S136 suite and Safe Haven. They will be required to be an autonomous clinical and managerial lead for all of the inpatient wards (adult and older peoples) and acute crisis services across the relevant footprint. There is an expectation that the post holder will travel across the relevant footprint in a planned and ad hoc manner ensuring equity in support and consistent approaches across all wards/services. The night manager will provide the most senior cover and leadership to the boroughs out of hours operating with significant autonomy. They will be responsible for ensuring resourcing and safe nursing across the division out of hours. They will be the senior level of management present in the division prior to contacting the senior manager on call and therefore responsible for the safe management of the governance agenda in line with Trust, NMC & CQC standards.
Main duties of the job
1. The provision of effective clinical leadership to and management of ward staff including undertaking supervision and IPDRs.
2. The night manager will develop communications with their peers in the other boroughs and the acute trust sites.
3. Undertake a handover to and from the bed management team.
4. Support senior ward staff in the event of incidents of any nature.
5. Support in the mobilisation of business continuity plans.
6. Respond appropriately to major incidents.
7. Provide constructive challenge through gatekeeping admissions.
8. Provide oversight and leadership of the safe havens.
9. Provide clinical supervision to an agreed number of ward staff to be agreed with the ward managers and inpatient service managers.
10. Maintain an accurate bed state and coordinate admissions including the management of mixed sex accommodation supporting the recording and reporting of breaches.
11. Make the clinical judgement with regards to admitting to a gender inappropriate bed ensuring robust risk management and care plans are mobilised to manage the breach.

Person specification
Education Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Must be first level registered nurse, RMN or RN in Mental Health.
* Must have an excellent command both numeracy and English language skills.
* Training and competent in PMVA techniques.
* Evidence of post qualification academic achievement in the relevant area for this post.
Desirable criteria
* Degree level qualification.
* Specialist training in Older peoples care.
* NMP.
Experience
Essential criteria
* Evidence of supervision of qualified junior staff.
* Experience of MDT working.
* Experience at Band 6 and/or evidence of appropriate clinical management experience.
* Must have the ability to effectively manage a clinical area.
* Leadership experience.
* Experience of working autonomously.
* Experience of undertaking clinical audit.
* Experience of implementing change.
* Experience of working in a complex environment working to conflicting deadlines.
Desirable criteria
* Experience of Older peoples services.
* Experience of providing constructive clinical challenge.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Sound understanding of current government policies in relation to Acute Care including National Guidance, MHA, Risk Assessment, Risk Management processes and CPA processes.
* Sound understanding of the Trust's Adult and Older peoples Acute Service model.
* Good working knowledge of assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation processes for adults and older people.
* Knowledge of the KSF and Performance and Development review process.
* Knowledge and experience of working with people with dementia.
Desirable criteria
* Knowledge of psychosocial assessment tools and brief psychosocial interventions.
Skills and Abilities

* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
