Job summary
Warrington is an acute 17 bedded Surgical ward that has a high patient flow and varied acuity levels. Specialist areas of care are: ENT, Maxillo Facial Surgery, Gynaecology, Opthalmology and Head and Neck Cancer patients.
As a Senior Healthcare Support Worker, you will be working together as part of a multidisciplinary, professional team to assist the registered nurses and senior clinical staff in the planning, delivery and evaluation of care.
You will find solutions to problems and be able to demonstrate a positive approach to new challenges, encouraging others to do the same while helping to create an environment where differences are valued, encouraged and supported.
Main duties of the job
* Observing, monitoring and recording patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight.
* Communicating with patients, relatives and carers, assisting with clinical duties.
* Personal care including infection prevention and control, food, personal hygiene and overall reassurance, comfort and safety.
* To complete additional specialist training for our multi speciality patients.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels, both within, and outside the department.
* To take part as requested in ward/unit meetings, encouraging effective communications between other staff.
* At the direction of the Registered Nurses /Senior Clinical Staff, participate fully in the delivery of planned care.

Job Responsibilities
Communication and Working Relationships
* To take part as requested in ward/unit meetings, encouraging effective communications between other staff.

Planning and Organisation
* At the direction of the Registered Nurses /Senior Clinical Staff, participate fully in the delivery of planned care.

* To be aware of clients' emotional, social and physical needs, reporting back to senior staff responsible for clients' care.
* Provide information to enable the effectiveness of care delivered to be evaluated and accurate records maintained.
* Record in the relevant documentation the care that has been delivered contemporaneously.
* Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
* Work collaboratively with registered/senior staff, other health professionals and hotel service staff to ensure clients' holistic needs are met.
* Update client IT systems in the absence of the ward/unit administrator where appropriate.
* To liaise with ward/unit administrators regarding clients' records for clinics/admissions/discharges.
* Report any incidents, accidents or complaints to the person in charge of the ward/unit in accordance with Trust policies.

* The post holder will work according to Trust standards, policies and procedures and is accountable and responsible to the registered nursing team.

Personal Development
* To be responsible for own personal development; attending study days/courses as appropriate.
* Actively contribute to reviews with your line manager, including supervision and achievement reviews. Be able to ask for support as required.
* Attend mandatory training and keep up-to-date with developments in knowledge and skills.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
* Previous experience in a care environment or able to demonstrate a caring nature/life experience.
* Understands the need for strict confidentiality.
Desirable
* Working knowledge of complex care needs of some individuals/families including Safeguarding Children & Adults, Domestic Abuse and Mental Health.
Qualifications and Training
Essential
* NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent qualification/experience.
Desirable
* Care certificate.
* English & Mathematics at GCSE grade A-C (9-4) or level 2 functional skills.
Specific Skills
Essential
* Basic computer/keyboard skills.
* Fine motor skills - for venepuncture, phlebotomy and other clinical tasks.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills.
* Able to prioritise and organise work.
* Able to work under instruction, under pressure and as part of a team.
* Record keeping competency in handwritten and electronic records.
* Able to demonstrate empathy, sensitivity, and to adapt communication style to circumstances.
* Able to manage stress in themselves and others.
* Able to offer support at times of emotional distress.
* Willingness to undertake new skills and training.
* Able to work as a team member or independently.
* Ability to adapt behaviour to changing and challenging situations.
* To be flexible, adaptable, reliable and punctual.
