The post holder will take responsibility for the Theatre Scrub Team in the absence of the Band 7 Manager, who has continuing 24-hour responsibility. They will hold responsibility for staff management in the absence of the Theatre Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:
* Be accountable and responsible for maintaining own nursing practice. The post holder will be able to underpin applied theoretical knowledge in a variety of situations to determine direct patient care.
* To assess, plan, advise, implement and evaluate care of the surgical patient, maintaining own specialist knowledge and clinical skills.
* Assist the Scrub Manager in the provision of clinical and professional advice, expertise, support, developing practice and monitoring performance.
* To take appropriate action to ensure the safety of patients, including delegation of patient care to nurses with the appropriate level of skill at all times. To report any accidents/incidents to the Scrub Manager or Divisional Matron.
* To ensure that nursing and medical procedures are implemented and maintained in accordance with the policies of the Trust.
* Daily input and retrieve patient information appropriate to the Unit from the Trust Information Technology Systems ie. Bluespier.
* Use audit, personal observation and critical incident data to assist the team in identifying priorities for education and training of unit staff.
* Participate in formal teaching for qualified and unqualified nursing staff on a regular basis.
* Maintain a wide knowledge of current nursing and related practice by reading relevant journals and attending study days where appropriate.
* To facilitate a culture that provides an effective communication network between all disciplines involved in the care of the patient.
* Assist in the development of new initiatives, which promote and enhance patient care.
* Inform and discuss with the site lead any accidents, incidents, complaints or other undue occurrences are dealt with in accordance with current policy.
* Maintain accurate records at all times, ensuring appropriate reporting mechanisms are used.
* Order and maintain adequate stocks of supplies and provisions within the department including meeting/interaction with company representatives.

* Accountable for the safe use of medical devices for all personnel within the Theatre Scrub Team during the shift. Responsible for the maintenance of all of the Theatre Scrub Team physical assets during the duty.
* Responsible for the clinical supervision of all staff working within the Theatre Scrub Team for the duration of the duty. This responsibility will include education and training, CPD, discipline, sickness and appraisals of staff, recruitment and selection process as directed by the Theatre Scrub Manager.
* Participate in the resource management and the employment of appropriate management information systems covering patient data and manpower activities.
* Responsible for the collation of the units audit data as directed by the Unit manager and compiling them in an electronic format to be distributed to other departments as needed within the Trust.
* Maintain patient records to ensure information is accurate and up to date for future reference and complies with the Data Protection Act.
* Undertake audits and research to fulfil the requirements of the organisation and the Theatre Scrub Team.
* Provide effective Leadership for the nursing and administrative team and act as a role model.
* Provide adequate Mentorship/Training for untrained and student/ visitors to the unit from other disciplines.
* Provide effective support mechanisms to staff, relatives and patients during highly distressing and stressful circumstances.
* Responsible for COSHH within the Theatre Scrub Team and is expected to be frequently exposed to unpleasant working conditions but responsible for promoting a safe environment for staff, patients and visitors to the Theatre Unit.
