Job Summary:
Kingston and Richmond Foundation Trust is seeking a skilled and dedicated Pharmacy Technician to join our Pharmacy department. The successful candidate will be responsible for dispensing and supplying medicines to inpatients, supporting medicines optimization on the wards, and ensuring the safe and effective use of medications.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical:
o Identify prescriptions that might present risks to patients and resolve relevant issues before dispensing.
o Dispense prescriptions for individual patients, ensuring timely and accurate provision of medicines.
o Counsel patients on the safe use of medicines.
2. Managerial:
o Supervise Pharmacy Assistants and Pre-registration Pharmacy Technicians in dispensing medicines.
o Review stock requirements on wards and departments by liaising with appropriate staff.
3. Administrative:
o Maintain accurate records, both electronically and in paper form.
4. Governance:
o Ensure medicines are stored in appropriate conditions.
o Assess the suitability for reuse of stock medicines returned from wards and departments.
5. Team Role/Management:
o Develop effective communication between Pharmacy staff and ward/department staff.
6. Technical:
o Prepare extemporaneous medication for individual patients.
o Assess and manage stock requirements on wards and in departments.
o Minimize wastage of medicines through correct stock rotation and storage.
o Order and requisition stock.
o Dispense and record the issue of Controlled Drugs.
o Undertake regular drug stock takes and CD stock checks on wards.
o Cover duties of other technicians/dispensing assistants when necessary, including off-site work if required.
Qualifications and Experience:
* BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or NVQ level 3 in Pharmaceutical Science (or equivalent).
* Accreditation in Checking of Dispensing and Patient Counselling.
* Minimum of 6 months recent UK NHS hospital experience.
Skills and Attributes:
* Numerate with excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
* Team player, reliable, willing to learn, adaptable, and attentive to detail.
* Knowledge of NHS dispensing practices.

* Monday to Friday
* 08:45am - 05:15pm
* 1 hour break
