Location: Nursing Home – Soham Area
Salary: £33,000 per annum
Working Hours: 40 hours per week, 09:00 to finish (approximately 18:00 – 18:30)
Job Summary
We are looking for a passionate and skilled Chef to join our clients culinary team at our client’s Nursing Home in the Soham area. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a care setting, with a strong understanding of complex care needs, allergens, and textured food diets (IDDSI). You will be responsible for creating and preparing nutritious, fresh meals for our residents, ensuring food safety and high-quality standards are met at all times. You’ll have the autonomy to create daily menus while collaborating with kitchen assistants to maintain the flow of meal preparation.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and cook a variety of meals based on a daily menu that you create, ensuring they meet the specific dietary needs of our complex care residents.
* Develop and maintain a seasonal rolling 4-week menu that caters to the dietary requirements of our residents, including textured food for those requiring IDDSI levels.
* Supervise the preparation of ingredients, including chopping, slicing, and dicing, to support kitchen assistants and ensure timely meal service.
* Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, hygiene standards, and proper food storage.
* Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen and all kitchen equipment.
* Collaborate with kitchen assistants and pot wash staff to ensure smooth and efficient service.
* Monitor inventory levels, manage food supplies, and create shopping lists for necessary stock.
* Lead, motivate, and support a small team of kitchen assistants and pot wash personnel to ensure a smooth kitchen operation.
* Manage the weekly rota for kitchen staff to ensure appropriate coverage.
Required Skills and Experience
* Proven experience as a Chef or Cook, preferably within a care/nursing home setting.
* Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, including creating meals that cater to specific dietary needs (e.g., allergens, IDDSI).
* Experience leading a small team and managing kitchen operations.
* Strong understanding of food safety standards and regulations.
* Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing demands.
* Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to communicate effectively with kitchen staff and management.
* Rota management experience and a flexible approach to working hours.

At our client’s Nursing Home in the Soham area, they are dedicated to providing the highest standard of care to their residents. They currently have 35 residents, with 3 in hospital and 2 empty rooms. Their kitchen is a key part of delivering that care, ensuring each resident’s dietary needs are met with delicious, nutritious meals prepared from fresh ingredients.
