Position: Business Growth and Inclusion Contract and Programme Officer (Business Gateway Adviser) - fixed term until 31/03/2026
Location: Waverley Court
Salary: £37,626 - £44,257
Hours: 36 per week
The post holder will be responsible for providing business start-up, growth and inclusion specialist advice within the Council and to external stakeholders.
In this role, you will be part of our Business Gateway service, providing advice around starting up and growing a business. You will also contribute to the development of entrepreneurship and provide advice and support to external stakeholders on business and sectoral growth.
Major tasks will include delivering specialist business advisory support to founders, building effective working relationships with internal and external partners, and identifying and developing activities to ensure the delivery of the Council's business growth activities.
Reporting to the Business Growth and Inclusion Programme and Contracts Manager, it will be your responsibility to ensure that agreed standards, policies, and procedures are met and that all operations comply with statutory responsibilities, national legislation, standing orders, delegated authority, Council policies, aims, and objectives.
The post holder will plan, organise, and co-ordinate resources to carry out service activities to the required standard. A relevant degree or equivalent experience is essential, along with experience of providing high-level professional and business expertise, advice, and support on projects. You will have successfully supported projects in the past, demonstrating effective partnership working as well as innovative and entrepreneurial skills.
Major tasks will include:
* Providing advice to residents on starting up a business or becoming self-employed.
* Supporting local businesses with their plans for growth.
* Actively participating in multi-disciplinary internal and external teams to deliver key projects and initiatives.
* Building effective working relationships with partners in collaboration with internal/external partners.
* Monitoring the operation, effectiveness, and impact of projects and making recommendations with respect to operational changes.
* Ensuring services are effectively delivered to specification, to budget, and within timescale, taking personal responsibility for the development of sustainable project plans, service delivery, and development to ensure the service provides best value.
* Supporting the delivery of programmes of support within and outside the Council.
* Carrying out a range of tasks associated with the development and delivery of business growth and inclusion functions on behalf of the Council and external funding partners as appropriate.
* Planning, organising, and co-ordinating resources to carry out service activities to the required standard.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
