Job overview
Demand for Gastroenterology outpatient and endoscopy services is consistently high at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. We’re looking for proactive, motivated, forward-thinking individuals to join our clinical team. This post is an important part of our ongoing development of medical services at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, offering the successful applicant the opportunity to work closely with the existing Gastroenterology and Hepatology team to provide a high standard of care across the Trust. We are seeking consultants with enthusiasm, commitment and drive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within the community.
This is a substantive post based at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage and comprises 10 programmed activities (PAs) including an on-call commitment to the emergency endoscopy rota. The successful applicant will work closely with the existing 12 Gastroenterologists and 4 hepatologists to provide a high standard Gastroenterology service to the Trust. This post may require clinics at any of three sites: Lister Hospital, the New QEII Hospital in Welwyn Garden City, or Hertford County Hospital, Hertford.
Main duties of the job
1. Maintenance of high-quality patient-centered care
2. Shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service and participation in strategic planning
3. Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service
4. Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity
5. Active participation in continuing medical education
It is expected that the applicant will complement an existing department offering gastroenterology and liver services. Across the trust, the care of GI and liver inpatients is centralised at the Lister site with consultants involved in a 1 in 12 GI bleeding rota which incorporates a 24/7 bleed service and some routine endoscopy at weekends while on-call. The post does not include a commitment to the general medical on-call rota.
