We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our Haematology team as a Band 7 Senior Biomedical Scientist at the Scarborough Hospital Site as part of the Scarborough, Hull, York Pathology Services (SHYPS) Network.
You will be working with the existing senior team to provide Senior BMS support for Coagulation and Morphology. Additionally, there will be a training officer role for the site.
You must be a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registered Biomedical Scientist and hold an appropriate postgraduate qualification that includes Haematology specialty (MSc or HSD). Experience of quality management/audit, training, or leadership experience would be advantageous.
The Haematology Laboratory is equipped with Sysmex XN and CN analysers, interfaced with a telepath LIMS system, which is in the final stages of transferring to Winpath Enterprise.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will take delegated responsibility for day-to-day operational matters of the Coagulation and Morphology section of the department and deputise for the Chief Biomedical Scientist on technical matters in their absence.
They will supervise, train, and develop subordinate staff, including Biomedical Scientists (BMS), Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners, and Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLA), ensuring that proficiency and competence and personal and professional standards of that group are maintained.
The post holder will work closely alongside Senior BMS colleagues at the York site to ensure harmonisation of procedures and policies.

Person specification
Qualifications and Experience
* MSc or Equivalent in relevant speciality
* Comprehensive experience and a minimum of 3 years experience in a specialist BMS position within the relevant discipline in a CPA accredited laboratory
* Any relevant further qualifications or study in training
* Experience of a range of analytical platforms and preparation instruments, including the Sysmex HST, ESR, PV instrumentation
Knowledge and skills
* Demonstrable team working, prioritise workload and working to deadlines
