Salary - £90,000 to £120,000 DOE
As our practice continues to grow and diversify we have an exciting opportunity for either a Director of Fire Engineering or Chartered Fire Engineer to take the next step in their career and join Bailey Partnership's established and growing fire consultancy team.
Established in 1971, Bailey Partnership is a successful and award-winning multidisciplinary practice with ten offices across England. We are registered as a Chartered Practice with the RIBA, RICS, CIBSE, IFE, BSRIA, RTPI, CIAT as well as the Association for Project Safety.
We are recognised to be industry leaders in fire safety consultancy. In January 2023, we were appointed by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) as an Approved Consultant to the panel of Fire Risk Appraisal of External Walls (FRAEW) Assessors. In May 2023, we were awarded the FRAEW Hardship Framework by Homes England, which is a national appointment. In addition to these appointments, we are working with Housing Associations, Local Authorities, Developers, Commercial Portfolio Holders, Residential Management Companies and Industrial Manufacturers providing Fire Engineering services across the country.
Employing 190+ talented individuals we provide Architecture, Building Services Engineering, Building Surveying, Interior Design, Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Town Planning, Urban Design, Fire Engineering, Structural & Civil Engineering and Specialist Principal Designer services from our offices in Manchester, Maidstone, Chichester, Bristol, Peterborough, Bury St Edmunds, Exeter, Plymouth, Torquay and Cornwall.
The Practice has provided a range of Fire Engineering services for a number of years and has an excellent reputation. Our Fire Engineering team has grown through repeat business and we have a strong desire to further develop our fire engineering expertise around our multidisciplinary offering. Typical duties undertaken by the team include FRAEW's/EWS1's, retrospective fire strategies, design fire strategies, compliance reviews, design reviews, expert witness, site/testing inspections etc.
The Role:
Our current fire engineering commissions include fire engineering reports on design projects for our architectural and building services engineering team and working with our 50+ strong building surveying team undertaking EWS1/FRAEW surveys across the country.
The team is firmly established and fulfilling our existing internal workload however there is a further opportunity to grow the team by marketing fire engineering as a stand alone specialism in the marketplace which will have the full support of the Director team across the Practice.
Working from home is available although we would like the individual to be within commuting distance from one of our offices to ensure they feel part of the Bailey Partnership team.
The role will include opportunities to work abroad within Europe, providing specialist Fire Engineering advice to support our multi-disciplinary teams which are already providing services on the continent.
Desirable professional qualifications/skills:
1. An undergraduate degree in Fire Engineering or a suitable equivalent undergraduate or postgraduate qualification;
2. A Chartered Fire Engineer (CEng) registered with the IFE and Engineering Council;
3. Strong knowledge of UK legislation, standards and regulations, for example, BS9991, BS9999, BS7974, PAS 9980, RRFSO, PAS79, PAS7, BS7974 and the Current Building Regulations, specifically Approved Document B as well as knowledge of other regulatory regimes;
4. Have experience of undertaking EWS1 survey reports / FRAEW's utilising PAS 9980:2022;
5. Understanding of the DLUHC guidelines regarding external wall systems along with the Building Regulations, or the ability to learn this very quickly;
6. Experience of undertaking design and retrospective fire strategies across a variety of property types ranging from education, residential, healthcare, industrial and commercial;
7. Experience of fire integrity / compartmentation surveys to identify breaches, proposed remedial repairs through to preparation of specification and design;
8. Comfortable reviewing Architectural design proposals and assessing compliance with relevant fire safety standards and regulations;
9. Awareness of the Building Safety Act 2022 including competency requirements, Gateway applications and the role of the Building Safety Regulator.

4. Able to work as part of a team and lead a team, checking and authorising fire engineering work;
5. A track record of working with teams and prioritising workloads and delivering deadlines;
6. Ability to successfully lead on and manage complex projects in a proactive and diligent manner;
7. Strong track record in management of projects from inception to completion;
8. Client facing, ensuring high standards of technical delivery;
9. Develop, maintain, and grow client accounts, frameworks, and commissions;
10. Take a lead role on key client commissions and frameworks, managing fees, client relationships, quality of service delivery, client satisfaction, reporting, and maximising opportunities to develop workload;
11. Able to build long-term relationships;
12. Excellent administration skills and good use of the English language;
13. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office / Google software;
14. Hold a full, clean UK driving licence and have your own vehicle.
